Loft reviews (+ 40% off)

I love my favorite retailer, but it's nice to switch things up. Yesterday I had to do Easter dinner store runs and of course that included a trip to Loft for my beloved modern straghts in rinse (pics below). Soooo happy they had them in stock. And so happy for 40% off storewide. You can shop online with ENJOY40.

Original retail prices are listed. Remember, the fastest way to calculate the net price you'd pay is like this. $90 blazer. 9x6 = $54. Use 9 for the $90 x 6 because if the item is 40% off, you're paying 60%. Voila! Let's say the price is $55, I just round up before calculating because it accounts for tax anyway.

Falling dots print fluid henley blouse ($59.50) - Size PL - It was very popular was there were only 3 blouses on the rack. I would've tried PM, but this was the closest to my size.

When I saw this blouse I immediately thought of JC's silk top in shoe sketch. I know, not exactly the same. I like the Loft one better, actually. I'm not a big fan of the shoe sketch. Detour -> shoe sketch skirt review.

The Feeling
I really liked this blouse. Overlooking the whole poly thing. I do think there's a place for it, so I can't shun it altogether. This is great for the office, esp if you run cold. It probably doesn't breathe much, so it would keep you warm. Fabric not so good on hot days. I probably wouldn't buy it, personally, but thumbs up.

3/4 tweed blazer - Size M - Happy Easter! If that isn't yellow, I don't know what is. I saw this in-store and thought it was cute. Pondered it online, but didn't order. I know very well that yellow is not an easy color for me to wear. Check it out on Extra Petite.

The Feeling
Totally thrift shop feeling in color and fit. Matronly vibe.  I'm in the wrong size, but it's still a big ole no. Good luck if you try it.
Stripe puff sleeve tee ($54.50) - Size PM - This size seemed to fit fine, but wide thru the body. I would try a PS to be sure although it could possibly get too tight in the shoulders. I usually dislike a puff or pintucked shoulder but this was cute. Should be flattering for many.

Is it wrong to love stripes so much?

A good place to look for gauging if a top is too big. It wasn't too-too big under the arm.

It has a back zip, but it's a short one. I think the fabric pulls on it are cute.

The Feeling
Almost stripe perfection. It's a little wide thru the body. I will forgive the 100% poly because I do not like ironing and, well, I like the stripes. As far as the poly, I think if you pull this out of the dryer right away it will be wrinkle free.

Cotton eyelet peplum hem top ($54.50) - Size 6 - The top pretty much fit ok in the front. It had a big fold in the back. Ideally it would be taken up at the shoulders for the best fit. The store search said there was an 8P to try before I headed down there, but I didn't see it when I arrived.

I also tried the 8 (not pictured) to see if it would fall looser and straight. It seemed to kind of work in the back, but not in the front. The 8 was too loose in the bust, shoulder and under arm area.

The Feeling
100% cotton and a cute fit. I like the scallop at the sleeve. There is no lining, so there will be some see-thru issues you'll have to work out. I think that can be less obvious and more easily accomplished in warmer months. It's not a deal breaker. I wish it had worked out for me. Pics may look decent, but it wasn't quite a match to my figure. I would buy it, but probably never wear for fear of feeling self-conscious that the fit wasn't completely right. Thumbs up on this one, anyway.

Modern straight jeans in rinse ($59.50) - Size 29/8P - Love these. I've more or less stopped looking for my wool pants unless I'm going to work. You see these jeans in almost every fitting room pic. And I forgot all about my cords this winter. Because I love these! When you find jeans that fit well, get at least 2 pair. Yesterday I bought pairs 4 & 5. Pair #1 is wearing thin in the thighs after months and months of wash & wear.

The Feeling
Love, love and love. Ecstatic over the fit for me. These jeans are on faithfully on my side!
Mwah, jeans, I love you!

Aqua spritz print shorts ($49.50) - Fun, cute print. For some reason it made me think of Greg Brady. In the episode when they went to Hawaii.

I liked the colors in this print and didn't even mind that it put eyes on the top of my thighs. I didn't notice that in the fitting room. I'm only seeing it here when I really concentrate on the pics. I also see two psychedelic bald eagles with their beaks pressed to each other.

The Feeling
I loved the fit. They were very comfortable all over. Lukewarm thumb because there are no pockets. I use pockets.

Rinse wash denim shorts ($39.50) - These have a 3.5" inseam, but they fit similar to the ones above. Definitely got these (6) and will likely be wearing the heck out of them. I love a dark rinse, and they have pockets.

Candy dot shorts ($49.50) - I'm glad I tried the floral print shorts on because i know the 4" inseam works for me. When I got home, I saw & ordered these online. I didn't see them in-store. They look super cute.

Linen tee ($29.50) - A great price with the 40% off. I tried flax in size S and it was very long. I would try PS or PM for a shorter length. It didn't feel itchy or too slouchy/sloppy. It felt too big, though. I read the description, but I think it runs one size big. If you're a petite, try for that size and not the regular. I agree w/the online comments about sheerness. I think white is online only, so I didn't try that. I tried flax, hoping to pair it w/turquoise, but not sure the color is a match. Loft has done a great job of leaving those stupid elastic hems off the bottoms of blouses and venturing away from the poet style blouse. However, it's like their designer got pregnant or something. Everything is really big thru the body, even for me.

J Crew's collection Fair Isle sparkle sweater (orig $225, sold out) & geometric woven sleeve sweater tee ($44.99)

I never saw the sparkle sweater in-person. I see them on Ebay, but no way am I shelling out a couple hundred dollars for something that might give me fish scales for upper arms. I found the Loft geometric sweater very similar in concept. I have tried it on and it fits nicely. The sleeves feel crepe-like, so they're probably poly. The body of the sweater is cotton, I believe. Thumbs up on it. I immediately see it with the JC mustard pencil skirt in wool.

Also...
* Dot print pleated crinkle crepe skirt ($69.50) If you don't like/can't wear JC's postage stamp mini in scattered dot ($98), this might be a better silhouette. The print is very similar.

* Jacquard dot peplum - Soooo cute. The online pic doesn't do it justice. Solid fabric. Nice dark background. Beautiful tan dots. 8P fit me well.

* Marisa garden lace shorts - Nice lace. Love the 4" inseam. They come in black, mint & a purple color.

* Piped tweed jacket ($98) - Similar to JC's dot dash textured print.

* Stripe structured cotton knit tee ($49.50) - I should be ashamed. I'm like a stripes pusher. But this is 100% cotton and the structure does look good.

* Zip-back tee ($34.50) - I was checking this out in white, but didn't like the contrast stitching. Positive reviews and looks like it fits well.

Many more cute things on the site & some JC flavored items, but I have to cut myself off.

J Crew - ponte swing dress

J Crew's ponte swing dress (30567, $128) runs 00 - 1?. Colors choices are black and navy.

Size 4 - I think a size 6 would've felt more comfortable and looked better. To be frank, I would never consider paying $128 flat out for this dress. Two birds holding it in their beaks and flying it into my dressing room à la Cinderella is the only way I would've considered it might be worth the price.

Half-hearted attempt to see how it would look with high heels on. Didn't quite make it onto my toes. Check it out on AppGal, on ShOperaRach and on Shop With M.

The Feeling
I was in support of this dress for the longer length offered. Also plus points for the longer waist, as J Crew is notorious for very high waists in the dress dept. The fabric is the same nice fabric in the ponte peplum top (review). Overall, it didn't do it for me personally, but I can see it being flattering on others. Again, plus points for the longer length.

I also tried on the crystal color stone statement necklace ($228). It went down to $189.99 online, a couple weeks or so ago. Check it out on J Crew Is My Favorite Store.

Is this thing shiny or what? It reminds me of the twinkling stars they used to add to photos in the 70s and/or 80s.

Definitely a statement necklace.

I appreciate how the colors mix and match w/J Crew clothing. It looks absolutely smashing with the Camille dress.

The Feeling
Another one that's not a match for me, personally. Just too dang big and too many rhinestones. It is truly magnificient with the Camille dress in neon rose and for that it gets a thumb up, slightly to the side.

What goes with...

One
...the indigo floral quilted jacket (review) - now $79.99 online
vintage cotton v-neck tee (XS) neon persimmmon

elbow-sleeve tee in stripe (S) - red currant ivory - Check it out on Fashion At Forty
ponte peplum top - review

None of those worked, imo. I like the idea of stripes with it or a solid color tee underneath, but it would require some time & effort for a harmonious match. Moving on...

Two

Check out the skirt on J Crew Is My Favorite Store and on Mix and Match Fashion.

The Feeling
Super high price point for something you can pay someone to embroider onto a sweater of your choosing...cashmere, cotton, merino. Or if you're crafty, diy. It looks diy as it is. The stitching isn't very crisp. I mean for $400, I expect a lot more. I love grey and the cashmere was cozy.

I really liked the No. 2 pencil skirt in neon tweed & finally got a chance to try it. I pretty much never wear the wool pencil skirts I buy, so I was hoping I wouldn't like it. The color mix is unique and very cute. Lots of colors to pull out and play with.

Size 8 was too big. Size 6 would be the fit match for me. And the skirt is a cute match with the tipped boy shirt.
The Feeling
I like the skirt. Standard No. 2 pencil skirt fare with great colors and a fun, nubby tweed. Not a color match for me, personally. The yellow didn't work w/my skin tone. Whew, one less skirt for the museum. Thumbs up, though.

Three
Café capri in silk foulard (6) and the the short-sleeve chambray shirt (review). The necklace is the flower lattice in neon something (ohjeezmybrain), still available in crystal (review).

Too big...and...
...too big, unless I tried on a bum pair. I have consistently been a size 6 in the capris in the past year.

Always love pockets.

Which reminded me to try the half-tuck. Um, no-ski.

One final one...the short-sleeve chambray shirt and café capri in gilded brocade (review). Notice the chambray is buttoned to the top. I like it like that.

Shoes in all of the pics are the Coraline patent pumps (review).

Maybe you skimmed, but you made it to the end!

J Crew - lightweight boy shirt in stripe

J Crew's lightweight boy shirt in stripe ($78, 91849) runs 00 - 16. The color is called navy (NAV).

Size 6 - This size felt fine. The cotton is lightweight, but not super thin. Good for layering. I like the feel of the fabric. Very smooth, almost like it has a sheen to it but there isn't one. Check it out on Beach Chic Style, on Clothing Fixations, on Ina, on J Crew Is My Favorite Store and on Shopping Obsession.

Sleeve length. I'm 5'2".

With the schoolboy blazer in herringbone (6). You should see this top with a navy blazer. It will make any preppy heart go pitter-patter. Check it out on Fit Fun Fab Mom.

With the No. 2 pencil skirt in double-serge cotton (review).

The Feeling
Ok, I am a stripe nut and this is 100% cotton, but a purchase was definitely not instant for me. I have the striped silk boy shirt from days of Marissa and I've been wearing that with success, baby and all. I can usually get 2 wears out of that before dry cleaning, as I rarely wear one outfit all day long. This seemed to be the same concept but there are enough differences. The stripes are a little different width and the boy shirt is a darker blue. This top works fine solo, but you really have to see it with a navy blazer. That just cinched the love for me. I had a feeling I'd regret it if I didn't get it.
Thumbs up.
