Size 8 - The fabric on this is odd. It feels like something from a child's soft toy. Plastic felt is the best description I can come up with at the moment. It wasn't awful. It just felt odd to me. Another description would be that this is like a super ultra thin lightweight version of one of those vests they put on you when you get an xray at the dentist. Somebody who has tried on this dress, please say you have an inkling of what I'm trying to say here.
ETA: I think what I was trying to say w/the dental xray vest is...you know how it fits to your body & lays there because it's heavy? That's how this dress felt. Like clinging to my body. But it didn't feel heavy at all. It's very lightweight, which reminded me of felt. I felt like I was wearing thin plastic felt, if there were such a thing.
Shoes (8): J Crew patent Martina wedges
The place where I check to get a gauge on fit.
I'm not sure why I took this shot. I think just to remind myself that going from an 8 to a 4 might not work because of the rear. Consider taking the smaller of your 2 sizes, but I wouldn't go down two sizes. It crossed my mind, though, because the 6 still felt a little big (pics below).
Size 6 - This size was much better, but it still felt a little loose around the shoulder and neck area. As stated above, I don't think going to a 4 would work but I would try it to be sure. I got really thrown off by the dress being too big and didn't think to go back out and get a 4 to try.
A sad state of the dress I tried on. Practically the whole neckline was unraveling. That didn't look promising. Check it out on Audreybella (black), on Chioma's Evolution, on Cupcakes and Cashmere, on Respect the Shoes and on Shop With M.
It's an interesting dress. The black is a classic and the scallop detail makes it unique. Bright violet is striking. I didn't like how it felt like a paper doll costume and like I said about the unraveling: bad. That's it for my analysis. I'm trying to stay away from items that I know I won't wear.
silver_lining, this next one's for you!
Zip-pocket dress (FA13 $148) - aka The silver_lining gold zipper shift dress - Made up name in honor of silver_lining who hates exposed zips. It comes in regular 00-14 (03344) & petite 00-12 (05453). Black is the color choice.
Size 6 - 73% wool, 27% nylon. It didn't feel wool-y. It felt like a ponte dress. The dress is black. I would try a 4 to be sure of fit. As with many ponte dresses, I often take the smaller of my 2 sizes. I believe that it has a long zipper down the back and I was able to step into the dress to get it on, as opposed to pulling it over my head.
Not scandalously short on me at 5'2". Of course it'll be a higher hem if you're taller but you know it's bad news if the hem is thigh high on us shorties. If it does hit high on you, I think it would look so cute w/leggings and booties...some rubber bracelets, fingerless lace gloves...oh no wait, that's 80s style. This dress didn't remind me of the 80s, but it would be easy to take it there.
Comfy, casual, and non-threateningly edgy! lol
I looove a shift. I'm not fond of the zippers for me personally, but the dress works as a whole in the way of fit, design & style.
