J Crew - ponte peplum top

J Crew's ponte peplum top (84643, $78) comes in ivory or navy, sizes XXS - XL.

Size S - This isn't even the worse picture. I had to delete that one. I love a peplum. It's so such not a match for my figure, but I keep trying them anyway. I think it reminds me of ice skating costumes. Check it out on A Trail of Sequins.

Good thick fabric, but it didn't feel heavy. Just substantial. I like navy, but it was a little boring for me. Probably because of the blue jeans.

Sucking it in. This is closer to how it should look, but still not worthy of a purchase.

Back zip. However, it's hidden by a placket-like  fabric that covers the zip.

And a hook. Boo. Dislike these. Esp the ones that hook into thread and not another piece of metal.

The Feeling
Well, as already stated it's not a match for me. These pics are from almost a month ago and some poundage has been shed, but not enough to get me in this again. Good fabric. Good fit -- I can tell it fits well even if it's not optimal on me. Thumb slightly to the side because I do like a little more pleating in the peplum.

Size S - This was the color I wanted. The ivory reads as white, but not stark. It looks crisp & clean. Check it out on Ema, who shows how it's supposed to look.

Yes, a little more pleating than this definitely works better for me.

The Feeling
I liked the ivory. Again, good fit & fabric. Just not for me. I'd say it runs TTS. However, if you have a smaller chest & smaller frame, you might consider sizing down one. I felt it to be a little low under the arms.

  1. I'm surprised that this peplum top isn't more...peplum-y? It seems like the peplum piece kind of just falls straight versus giving a flared shape which is what comes to mind when I think "peplum". I have major rectangle shape so this would just look like a regular tank top on me - disappointing because aside from the hook into thread (seriously J. Crew?), this looks like a nice quality top. Thanks for the review! I can cross something off my list before even setting foot in the store :)

    1. SPG - Yeah, it isn't as peplum-y as I'd like. And I agree that it looks like a regular tank, for the most part. Too bad because I liked the fabric.
