Size 6 - When you see this dress & touch the fabric, you will feel as though you've been transported back in time to the good ole days of J Crew. The fabric is cotton, strong, sturdy. Absolutely nothing see thru about this dress. You will be happy to know the lining is 100% cotton. It's only in the bodice of the dress, but love and appreciate that cotton over poly any day.
The bad news is the same news. It's gonna be a bit short on those of you that are taller and with long thigh lengths. I'm 5'2". Check it out on ShOperaRach.
Side view. It seems some of the tops in the most recent releases are cut very low under the arms. I like the breathing room, but don't like the worry about which bra will work.
Because of that low cut side, when you look at it from the front, there's a little bit of gaping at the sides of the chest. I didn't like that.
The back hook was some two-part weirdness or just mangled. It had the standard hook, that you can see below the longer odd hook. I didn't break my pacing to investigate. If that longer hook is meant to be there, it's a bother.
The dress isn't fully lined. Just the bodice. And I think only the upper front portion of the dress, not the upper back. I've pointed it out in this pic.
The Feeling
Very, very solid execution. Except for the length, of course. It's fine at my height, but will quickly get scandalous for those higher up on the yardstick. Dresses that fall above the knee are cool, but when you consistently have dresses hitting many of your shoppers at the mid-thigh, it's time to think about adding at least an inch. I think the slightly faded look of the stripes and the stripe pattern (skinny, wide, varying colors) didn't give me The Feeling, personally. However, it's still definitely a thumbs up and will be a match for the JCAs that fall in love with the look and fit.

I usually don't like dresses with horizontal stripes, but this one is beautiful. Sadly, they don't make this one in tall sizes.
ReplyDeleteI"m 5'4" and it was scandalously short on me. I agree it was so nicely made and I love those stripes. Maybe they will make some shorts in that fabric, I would buy those in an instant! :)

ReplyDeleteWas so happy to see the cotton lining and the really well-made material, but then I saw the length... I still made myself try it on, but totally laughed at how short it was on me. There was a good hemline to take down, but I think on that material, it might ruin it?
