I went to Macy's the other day to return some shapewear that I tried on at home. The pieces were ok, but I'll be sticking with Miraclesuit. I decided it would be a great idea to try on some J Crew items before I went over to return them. One of the JC items I tried was the swiss-dot chiffon dress (review here). Of course it would be odd to roll into a fitting room with a JC garment back in hand, but no Macy's merch. So I pulled one thing to try. One thing turned into multiple before I made it to the intended destination.
Bar III Jacket, Three-Quarter Tuxedo Blazer ($89.99) - Size S - Currently on sale online for $59.99 thru 1/14. The jacket runs XS - XL. 87% poly, 10% rayon, 3% spandex, lining is 97% poly, 3% spandex. The fabric on this isn't an issue for me. Most tux blazers I've tried are poly, rayon or poly/rayon blend.
ETA 1/9 - The S and M I tried today felt odd w/the lining. Once I got them on and adjusted, they felt fine. The M felt more comfortable, but looked a little big. The S was a snug fit, but looked the most sleek. FYI, the blazer was regular price and the $54.99 price is online until 1/14. XJW562A992 gets $10 off $75+, but I don't think it works on Bar III. Could be useful if you have other items on your order. The code expires 1/31.
I don't think this had a closure. If it did, it was a button. I would've remembered if it was that metal slide thing, which I don't like. I think I was just trying to get an idea of what a M might look like if the lapels fell closure together when on .
Bangin' sideview. Oh, those sleves are rolled. They're not that short or a bracelet sleeve.
The Feeling
Very well done, Bar III. If I didn't already own a tuxedo blazer, I would've purchased this one It was sleek & slimming. Loved fabric, fit, everything about it.
Bar III Jacket, Long-Sleeve Blazer 9$79) - Size M - Zero points for product name creativity. Currently on sale online for $54.99 thru 1/14. Here's some bad news. 91% poly, 6% rayon, 3% spandex and dry clean only. Bleeach. And I wish I could tell which photos were going to be blurry so I could re-shoot. Ah well.
I'm trying to show you the sideview, but my elaborate Cirque du Soleil twisting (I wish) is not allowing. The hem is rounded and it fell nicely. I think the rear might be slightly longer than the front, but didn't scream hi-lo.
The Feeling
I really liked this one too and can overlook the fabrication. The lack of closures are a little bit of a bummer. I think that sometimes make a garment looks cheap or unfinished, but the reality is I rarely ever close my blazers so (shrugs).
Three more jackets by Bar III
Kensie Jackiet, long-sleeve blazer - Size M - It also comes in black ($118). The black is currently $54.99 online thru 1/15.
I think M is just a little too big, but S would be too tight. Go with your regular alpha size, unless you're carrying around a puck like me. The puck reference will make sense soon. No, no new baby coming. ;)
Sleeve length.
The Feeling
I liked the color, weight and feel of this. I don't think the color will work for everyone, but it's definitely a good neutral. It wasn't your average camel or tan. It's a bit rosy tan. You'd have to see it irl because the pics didn't capture it.
Dang, another blurry pic. Anyway, the M fit if I buttoned it, which I would want to have the option to do with this particular jacket. I don't know why as I just said I don't button most blazers. I guess I prefer to have the option just in case. Fits to be able to button it, but gets too big elsewhere...which is really noticeable under the arms.
The Feeling
The faux leather is very well done. From afar, I had to take a 2nd look to be sure if it was leather or not. I figured it was, but still it looked good. I like the lapel, the 2 pockets. Like that the faux leather is on the body of the blazer and not the sleeves like we saw so much of in FA11. I was really wishing the S looked better because I would've gotten that. It looked pretty good, but I couldn't button it. That's the bla... oops... my fault, not the blazer's. So far I'm sticking to my if-it-don't-fit-don't-buy efforts.
Thanks for stopping by... :)

Wow the Tuxedo Blazer looks amazing on you!
ReplyDeleteLove that tux blazer, and it looks fabulous on you!
ReplyDeleteLove the tux blazer! You look great!
ReplyDeleteThey all look great. Dare I say, much more flattering than a lot of the jackets at you know where. I hate to admit, but I rarely venture outside of my J. Crew, Talbots, Banana, Brooks Brothers petites comfort zone, but when I do I am always pleasantly surprised. It IS possible to find really flattering clothes at other stores! And those prices are guilt-free, too.
ReplyDeleteThat tuxedo jacket looks amazing on you! Thanks for the reviews.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely are a jacket/blazer girl. You looked great in everything. Ok, couple of size issues but you still looked "banging". Every new mom needs to hear that. In fact, every mom Need's to hear that.

ReplyDeleteMegan from Chasing Davies
The perfect tuxedo jacket!
ReplyDeleteI went and tried the tux and the grey blazer since the tux looked so great on you. Ended up buying the grey was very soft. I found the tux very scratchy/polestery in comparison. -Amanda
ReplyDeleteAmanda - I kwym about the tux blazer. I have only tried on poly tux blazers, so it didn't bother me. The arm felt tight when I tried it on again, so I would go with a M, instead of S. I think. lol
DeleteThanks for the lovely comments, everyone!
