Size S - I had on two layers, which was a lot for the jacket. It didn't feel uncomfortable, but I felt....husky. I didn't realize how much the print isn't doing me a favor. lol You can totally wear these layers under and a jacket over all of it if you like. You shouldn't fall over from too much top weight. lol Layers create a good look, so think about layering under and over.
ETA: I ended up with the size S. I'm very happy with it. I tried M and the sleeves are too big. I'm able to get the S over a long-sleeved sweatshirt, so I know it was the right choice.
ETA: I knew I was attracted to the price I paid on this, so I kept looking. After buying & returning, trying different sizes in this and trying one from Madewell, I ended up w/a perfect one from Old Navy ($34.94). There's something about the cut of the jacket, the size of the pockets and the bit of spandex that makes the ON option a much better fit and look. Plus, the multishades of denim wash looked dated on me. A nice, solid dark blue is best.

So I tried it on without the sweatshirt and that was better looking.
I like the wash. It's similar to the Nolita in Great Lakes wash (review) from last year. The pockets on the Great Lakes are slanted almost into diagonals. I wish I could grab the measurements of this year's. I think it runs smaller than the one from last year, but that's just a guess.
Buttoned, which wasn't effortless to do, but wasn't too hard either.
The Feeling
It's totally worth the promo price. I definitely got The Feeling in the Great Lakes wash. I think I wasn't expecting to look as big as I did in this one. I've lost 3 lbs in the past week! Stomach aside, it felt tight across the chest and the one from last year didn't feel that way. Both Nolitas are 100% without any stretch. If you have fit considerations in the chest, you should get the measurements to be sure you take the right fit. Also consider if you want to primarily want to wear it in the spring/summer. You might want a tighter fit if you're on the fence.
I felt cooler/hipper in the Great Lakes wash, but like I said I think I was a little bummed at what I saw in the mirror this day. lol Thumbs up.

Three layers is a lot for anyone to pull off. Everyone needs a denim jacket...sorry just a staple you gotta have. Congrats on the weight loss. I got the Nutribullet for Xmas from my sister. She said, "I don't want to be the fat sister anymore." gee, thanks, I guess. Family, gotta love 'em.

DeleteI got the Madewell today. Very cute but the Medium was a little too large. I think you want denim jackets really tight or they look too 80s. I got it for $42 so I almost want to keep it but I guess I will either do an exchange or go for the J.Crew version. Do you think that they will honor the promo price with the 40% in store?
DeleteKelly L-G - Don't exchange it based on price alone. You can find the perfect-for-you jacket, so keep trying if you ultimately feel like it's not the one.
DeleteThey generally do not honor the promo prices ($.00) prices + additional 30% or 40% off in-store. Most of the SAs are used to only applying the barcode for an additional % off final sale. Many of them do not even know that the promos work on promo priced items. At least in my experience, they've looked at me blankly when I mentioned it.
If you go in-person to J Crew, have them call in the order. Then when you speak to the CS rep, ask them to apply the GET40 promo. I did that with no problem a couple days ago.
Gigi, thanks so much for the reply. I would feel uncomfortable trying to make such a big deal out of the price with the sales associates so it is really helpful to know it isn't an easy process. I guess I would rather pay the shipping and wait a week. All the pricing games are so silly. I feel bad trying in store and then ordering online, but the price difference is like 50%!
