J Crew - collection ruffle collar shirt

J Crew's collection ruffle collar shirt (56440, $225) comes in black or warm bisque. It's on sale now for $159.99

The beautiful image from jcrew.com that many of us love. Dang trick photography that J Crew has abused in the past year or more. You would think the fabric is a luxe, opaque silk esp for a $225 opening price, but it's not.

Size 6 - Size 6 was the right choice. Check out the warm bisque on the J. Crew blog and on Shop With M.

The ruffle placket. Not ruffle collar. There are no ruffles on the collar.  I kept looking for them online, based on the product name. I guess it's ruffle, collar shirt. Not ruffle-collar shirt.

Sleeve length. Not a bracelet sleeve. I'd say the sleeve length is average to slightly longer.

I couldn't decide between black and warm bisque. By the time I wanted to commit, only black was available in my size. I just hoped I wouldn't look like a mariachi band member. And I don't.

Pajama pants! (S): Old Navy FA12

I rolled the sleeve right at the wrist and it hung there limply.

When I re-rolled it the J Crew way, it looked better & stayed in place much better. What you want to do is take edge of the sleeve and bring it up to your elbow. Then fold that in half and so on, until you get the look you like. It's much cleaner than using the cuff as a measurement and folding it up, based on the width of the cuff.

The sleeve detail. I was able to squeeze my hand (7.5 glove) thru the opening. I'm not sure I will do that all the time because it's a tight squeeze and I don't want to put stress on the garment. Left pic is how it looks, naturally. Right pic is after I opened up the wrist keyhole detail to share the length, which is approx 4".

The Feeling
I am feeling especially cheap after all these promos, which have been going since the week before Thanksgiving. $111 felt like a lot for a blouse that which is not likely to have a lot of utility for me. I don't really go out at nite at the moment, but if I did I would wear this with cute bottoms for a dressier look. It's quite sheer. There is a chance a navy cami might create a softer look -- not so much contrast against my skin, and still blend in with the black top. I don't feel disappointed about missing out on warm bisque. I think the color would be less forgiving for dealing with what type of cami one wears with it and so on. Overall I felt good in it right away, comfortable and not fussy at all. I would've been disappointed about the fabric if I'd only see the Lookbook pic. I knew it was sheer. T any rate, thumbs up.

Not collection. Not silk chiffon. But much lower price points.

In other news, I've lost 4 lbs in the past couple of weeks and pretty excited about it. I was drinking an average of a soda a day and I lost 2 lbs the first week I cut that out. Also, Mini G is now 17 months and I'm still totally & utterly exhausted. This year started off super busy the first business day of the year and continues, which I'm excited about as well. Fellow bloggers, I think of you in my 'real life' and wish I could get around more to visit. Please know I'm thinking about you. I appreciate everyone who keep coming around these parts, whether you comment or not ;).

Chime in...

  1. I like this shirt on you Gigi. $225.00 is kind of steep for a sheer blouse. I'll wait until this goes on sale.

  2. Why does everything have to be so sheer? Doesn't look it on the promo shot. I do like the fit and style just not the price and sheerness. Congrats on the continued weight loss.

    1. Blue Booby - Thank you! I'm going to get into the Wii fit in a minute. It's 3 yrs old now, but I know it works so I'm doing it. I don't know why they had to make this sheer. It would've been a splendid opaque blouse.

  3. Wow, you look FANTASTIC in that blouse. I ordered it in the black and can't wait for it to arrive. I think you are right about the off-white color being too difficult to pull-off with the correct cami. And, congrats on losing so much weight. :)

    1. Shekster - 4lb is great considering I will be pretty happy with a 10lb loss. Fantasy/future loss goal is 20. But 4 lbs is almost 25% of that, so...

  4. I saw both the colors in store and strangely the black looked more sheer than the warm bisque (a pretty dull color IMO, you didn't miss anything) probably because in the black there is more contrast between the ruffles and the body.
To me it looks A LOT like a Tory Burch blouse but it is pretty. Funny about the name.
I miss you visiting but glad to hear that you are busy and happy in your "real" life.

    1. Ema - Thanks for letting me know about the warm bisque. I've been considering stalking it, but it sounds like it's not worth it. Plus, I need to visit my beige blouse one more time because I'm convinced I have something similar.

  6. The material is totally different from what I thought it would be! Even so, it looks really pretty on you!
My son is about 1 yr older than your Mini G.... it will get better re the exhaustion. I cut out soda also and it helped me feel like I had more energy.
Congrats on your weight loss and thanks so much for all your posts - I enjoy stopping by!

    1. L - I was using the soda for a pick-me-up. I know there is always a crash after, but I felt like I needed the temporary boost. Can't do coffee unless I think about how my day is going to go because it causes anxiety. I actually had one soda yesterday after 2 wks and I didn't miss the taste at all. So that's good! Thanks for visiting :)

  8. Hang in there, Gigi. It will get easier. I have 4 little ones (2 sets of twins). Yep. Two. Sets. The youngest set just turned 2 a few days ago. Hubby and I were remarking that we should pat ourselves on our back having done this twice with no family near us to help and no $$$ for nanny assistance. We splurge on a cleaning service when family come in from out of town. Oh, and no, we're not trying for a 3rd set. I think my womb would rupture in sheer fright or b#$%@* slap me silly.

I had lost all the pregnancy weight straight away after birth between the insane amount of stress and double nursing. Once I stopped nursing at 15 mths. though some of the weight crept back on. Sigh. Ah, well. I gave up soda during pregnancy/nursing. When I crave bubbles now, I drink La Croix water/sparkling water. Hubby and kids got me a sodastream for Xmas (not as exciting as a J Crew giftcard, but practical). I like using it.

    Congrats on weight loss.

    1. Anon - 2 sets of twins! (bows, bows) Whenever I would feel really frustrated, I'd just imagine having twins and try to get over myself. lol Fatigue is a mf. This afternoon I had a 20 min nap and feel awesome. I wish I could nap an hour/day. It would make all the difference. I thought about the sodastream. I think that access would do me in.

    2. The things we moms go through.

Get yourself a pair of Wonder Woman cotton underwear from Target. That's what I did recently. Best $5 I spent in a while. Heck yes, we women earn that title everyday we survive a day juggling work, motherhood, housework.

  9. Yay on the 4 lbs! After some time, the sodas might taste yucky to you. I cannot take more than a couple sips and only if I am beyond thirsty and and it's the only beverage around.

About this blouse, I was first tempted by the Collection label but could never get past how it reminds me of a bartender's shirt garters ... ;)

  10. My son is 22 months today and I feel your pain!! While he started sleeping through the night (7:30-7!!!) at 14 months I really didn't start to feel less tired until 17 or 18 months. Its only been the last couple of months that I don't automatically wake up at 1:30 and 4. My weight has come down a bit with more sleep and my workouts are much much more productive. I try to remember that it wasn't just 9 months of pregnancy but also 14 months of interrupted sleep and stress about how to get an angry awake baby back to sleep; it does take months to recover from that!

  12. Girl, I can totally tell you've lost weight! *fist bump!* My youngest Mini is the same age as yours and I'm wicked tired (tell her to sleep!) and have lost all of 3 pounds since the day she was born. I SUCK at post partum weight loss. Will you please tell me to stop sucking at post partum weight loss?!
Anyway you look awesome, and you saved me from stalking the "ruffle collar" (who named that?) shirt. Sheer is not in my vocab. So, thx.

  13. Yay, Gigi!!! Congrats on the weight loss, 4lbs is huge on your tiny frame. Mini Ford will be 20 months next month, and honestly, I'm just starting to not feel AS tired now. I lost all my pregnancy weight when she was 11 months old, but I slowly gained 5-7lbs when I went back to work (stress, and tiredness = less energy to work out, etc) and cut down on the nursing (still nursing, but happy to say, almost weaned!). I think we'll always feel some form of tiredness with a kid, work and activities (mini is in swimming and music). Keep up the good work!
