Size 4 - I like the idea of the mushroom color for velvet, instead of the expected black. Black would've been nice, though.
Sweater (M): J Crew merino turtleneck
(Similar color Dorothy Perkins (4, 6) & Land's End sweatshirt)
The crotch was my least favorite part. I think there is a high rise and the excess material sagged into an unfortunate look.
Standing up straight and hiking the pants up more removes the package.
Yeah, that's a higher rise.
I was very dismayed when I saw the look on the left. My butt is taking a sharp curve outward, from the looks of things. It's cured in the right photo by pulling my sweater down
The Feeling
I really wanted to like these. I like the pockets & always appreciate belt loops. The color looked nice in the package and the material felt like a heavier panne velvet. I didn't like the higher rise. I expected the pants to be more sleek, based on the stock pic. They were like fuller pants that got cropped. I couldn't get into these. Thumbs down.
Chime in...

Are those pleats in the front?
ReplyDeleteeddilicious - Yeah, pleats and then the crotch sagged into one big...errr...pleat. Now that I look at the stock pic, they're not very sleek. I think I just had cafe capri stuck on the brain since that seems like the only pants JC offers. These are a fuller leg for sure.
DeleteBless your heart for publishing these..but thanks none the less. Those pants are terrible. Apologies in advance to those who love them.
ReplyDeleteBlue Booby - I know...I know.
DeleteOh, no. No, no, no, no, no. Not for $129.99, not for 1.99. No woman wants pants that give the illusion of a package. Thanks for the chuckle. You are a brave woman for even trying on those monstrous pants. :)
ReplyDeleteshopalot - Not for $1.99...lol.
DeleteI think they look nice on you in the first photo, but you don't want to have to keep adjusting things to get rid of that pouching in the front. They should call the fit "mushroom". I think pleats are the devil. Thanks for reviewing these. I may have fallen prey.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth - Yeah, adjusting all day long I something I can't be bothered with.
DeleteThanks for taking one for the team Gigi! :)
ReplyDeleteshopwithm - Here to help ;)
DeleteWow, those are terrible! That being said, you look amazing, Gigi! Thanks for always sharing the good, the bad and the ugly!!!
ReplyDeleteinjanuity - Final sale is a big drag. I'm hoping this review will help something before purchasing. Or I guess solidify their purchase if they like them.
DeleteI was always curious about these - glad I didn't get them! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWMM - Saved! lol
DeleteI would have ordered these if they came in black. Mushroom for the evening, not so much. I think the problem is that they should have done a side zip (especially with the high rise). I bought a pair of Zara that are exactly like these should be. And... no package (if you are interested in seeing how they look, they are in my post from this past Sunday, with the beaded mockneck).
ReplyDeleteEma, I looove your pants. Thanks for sharing :)
DeleteI agree with your assessment! The colour and material are a really interesting idea, but I don't think J.Crew executed it very well with the weird shape and all that sagging. 100% the fault of the pants for sure! Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting, Jyoti :)
DeleteThanks for sharing. I wanted to like these when I first saw them on the website as the word "velvet" is all it takes to sell me on something, but I quickly resigned to the inevitability that these wouldn't work for me. And I'm usually pretty good at understanding hipster styles (e.g., some of Madewell's obscurities) and have a good grasp of ironic fashion. Alas I cannot fathom how these are meant to be worn. Maybe in ironic [luxe] Charles Dickens-poor-street-urchin manner with a newsboy cap and loafers with slouchy socks?
ReplyDeletelife as a cat - Charles Dickens...rofl. What a luxe Halloween costume these would make.
DeleteIn the first photo, they look nice, and I actually like them sort of casually worn with that lovely brick/terracotta color on top.
ReplyDeleteAnd then - disaster! Apparently, these are pants that require special posing and/or hiking up to look good - I think it is a combination of the too-high rise and the pleats.
carmencatalina - The mushroom definitely work w/the cab sweater. It would've been a creative combo had the pants worked.
DeleteI was cracking up when you said "hiking up the pants removes the package" lol. I can't stand it when pants do that!! <3
