Size 4 - Retro jade. This color is very pretty. Given that I have the capris in this color, I'm not sure I need the skirt. But yes, the color is lovely. The fit is pretty much like I remember from 2010. I was pregnant last year and didn't try any, that I recall. I have taken size 4 in previous years and size 4 fit well this year.
No. 2 pencil skirt in double-serge wool vs Factory wool blend pencil skirt - I have tried on the retail No. 2 a few times now. Retail size 4 definitely fits best. If you're on the fence in sizing, take the smaller of your 2 sizes. I'm still plump in my post partum state, so I feel confident saying that. And I don't like these types of skirts to fit in a vavoom way, either. In the Factory skirt, I recommend sizzing up one/take the larger of your two sizes. I also tried a Factory sz 6 (not pictured) and it fit like the retail size 4. Fyi, the Factory size 4 is not zipped up. I couldn't get it zipped. The Factory version is 2" shorter in length compared to the retail version.
Given that the quality has declined in the retail pencil skirt, it will be a perfectly fine decision for some of you to take the J'Crewlet version. I haven't worn the wool pencil skirts in the past, but I want to wear a couple this year. I probably won't wear them often and won't get down to a low cost/wear, so I'd probably be cool w/Crewlet. Sometimes the Factory versions of items can have less hue, less vibrancy than their retail predecessors, but I found the colors to be quite nice in the pencil skirts. I think the quality of the wool is a little less than retail, but like I said, retail has declined. I'd say they're closer together in quality than they were in the past.
As I said, I've tried on a few size 4 pencil skirts this season and they fit each time. It really surprises me because I thought I'd be a 6 with my current torso size & shape right now. Remember that companies are cutting more pieces of fabric at one time and the resulting cut are skewed, affecting fit. Sometimes a S and M will both fit the same. Two size Ms will fit very different. If you're in-store and find yourself stumped by fit issues, try a couple versions of the same size. If you're shopping online, things get trickier. The best thing you can do after checking blog reviews is to request specific measurements for each garment. J Crew has them for each item and I often get them by using the chat feature. They will also provide them by phone or via email (the longest time to respond, of course)
