J Crew - 30% off ends tonite

SHOPNOW for 30% off final sale ends tonite at jcrew.com. It started on 8/1 with no mention of it on the website until 8/5 or so. Thank goodness for The Mothership. FYI, the code will likely be removed at 9p PST. It should still work thru 11:59 PST.  Here is a lil' bag of reviews:

Long No. 2 pencil skirt in double-serge cotton ($69.99) - ($128, 78837) runs 00-16. This skirt is online only. Casablanca blue & warm jade are $69.99, but are sold out. Black, natural & warm burgundy are on promo for $98.

Size 4 - waist = 29.5", hip = 35", back length = 26.5"
Size 6 - waist = 30.5", hip = 36", back length = 27"

Size 6 - I saw what I think was 3 generations of women walking down the street about a week ago. One was pushing a stroller. She had on a tank, shorts and flip flops. I assume she was the youngest, but I wasn't 100% because a 2nd woman had on the same sort of outfit. Woman 1 looked like she could be in her teens and woman 2 in her late 20s-30s, but dressing like a teen. The 3rd woman was clearly the grandmother and she had on a pencil skirt, button down shirt and a short heel. I wanted to be the grandma! And when I saw this skirt on on Biscuits & Navy and thought, yeah, maybe I could wear a pencil skirt at this length.

Yeah, I'm feelin' it. I got a good feeling when I was looking at it thru the plastic, rectangle shaped bag, before I could even see it's true shape,

 5'2"

I would look less lean if I wore flats, but if they have a teensy tincey heel on them it would probably work. Big thumbs up. Despite the fact that it's a lint attractor, I will be keeping it. I'm guessing the skirt shows wrinkles and black will show the fewest. Or at least they will be the least visible from a distance.

A lot of eeehhh, visual info, I know, but I'm hoping it helps. The skirt is sitting high on my torso. The skirt looks very long, which is is. It's interesting how it doesn't look as long when it's paired w/the top. I'm on the fence on the size. The size 6 definitely fits in the waist. It feels a little loose, adding visual weight from the hips on down. It could definitely be tighter thru that part of the skirt. I do not like shelling out extra money for alterations, but sometimes that's the way to go. The size 4 would fit better in the lower half, but I might not be able to zip it. Or it might come directly under my chest and that would just be weird. The only reason I'm wondering if a 4 might be better is if it stretches out during the day as I've read about happening with the the No 2. pencil skirt in double-serge cotton (regular length). I definitely took a 6 in that.

A lotta more info. My waist is not very defined no matter what size I am. My hips are more or less straight and my weight lives in the in-law setup out back, as you can see. I was 35" hip measurement and think I'm 36" now.

Perfect-fit ballet button tee - Size M  (72716 $32.50) runs XXS - XL. 16 color choices. Some of the colors are on sale for $19.99 and promo $26.50. The heather graphite, pictured, is on promo.
The buttons. I'm glad they're not on the shoulders. I didn't check to see if they function, but I don't know why you'd want them undone. Maybe if you had a striped shirt on underneath and wanted that bit of stripe to show at the elbow.

Anchors aweigh tee - Size L (87298, $39.50) is now $24.99 online. The color is called ivory, sizes XXS - XL. My chest currently measures 36.5" across the fullest part. I thought the M would be too tight, esp across my stomach, so I got large. Dumb. M would've been better.

Size M - chest = 35"
Size L - chest = 37.5"

This size felt like a nighttime/pj-type t-shirt. The print is cute, but I think they look more like arrows than anchors until you get up close.

Camp popover in stripe - Size 8 (77701 $69.50) - This color sold out at fp in my store. I ordered the 6 and was disappointed that it fit so slim. I was lucky to find the 8 on popoback. It's perfect.

Factory merino classic pullover sweater (97230, $69.50) is currently on promo for $59.50 and the addtl 30% applies with SHOPNOW thru tonite (Tue, Aug 7). The color is called muslin and it looks exactly like that irl. I think I was expecting something a smidge darker. Like a shade or two.

I thought it was kind of ok until I realized it looks like a thermal in this color.

I put some arrows on the pic showing how the neckline looks ratty. I don't know what they're doing w/the weave, but my Factory Thandie (the J'Crewlet merino Tippi) does not have a neckline like this. I will be paying $4.95 to ship this back USPS Priority (has tracking) because it's not worth the net $41 sale price to me. I'll just eat the $5.

I'm really happy w/the long no. 2 pencil skirt, despite lint attracting fabric. I am going to try the natural and warm burgundy while they're on promo. I've wanted a white denim skirt, but I'm thinking that's not my style. I always feel weird in them. The long no 2. in the natural color would be more of my style aesthetic, I'm thinking. Also threw in the double-breasted blazer in warm burgundy while it's on promo. See it on Vicky's Daily Fashion. I'm curious to see just how much poly is in that blend.

  2. I'm a big fan of the perfect fit tees and have been wanting one in the ballet button version. It looks like the sleeves come below the elbow?
It's very cute with the skirt.

    1. maryeb - On me the sleeves come a little below the elbow. They are 13.5" long from the shoulder seam. :)

  3. I agree, love the skirt. And LOL about wanted to be the grandma.
I bit again on the promo and ordered the linen cable in navy as a ride-along to a fp purchase. I figured that for 17 I could take the risk.
And now I am debating the art polka-dots cafe capris that finally went on promo today. I am dotted out but these fit exactly like my foulard ones that are the most flattering pants ever. Even my husband made an unsolicited comment on how great they look (he even said "I approve the purchase", something unheard of) so I feel like I should get them!

    1. Ema - The grandma looked so classic. I wanted to run across the street and hug her. Well, not touch and muss her up, but definitely tell her I appreciated her style. Sounds like you are AUTHORIZED for the polka dot capris. They'd be cute on you.

    1. Sarah - You're like a paid "plant" coming in here saying I'm thin. lol I am sucking in my gut in most of the pics because I figure it's a help to more people if I do not show my 3 mo-LOOKING-belly. However, I *have* been walking every nite for the past 3 wks and I am seeing a difference. Thank you!

  8. Gigi - you made me laugh out loud reviewing that skirt - so funny! I think it looks great on you and I am amazed, as at our height, I was not sure we could pull off the longer length - for me 20/21" appears the right length, but you are making me rethink that as you look so darn good!

    1. WMM - I know, I passed the skirt over many times thinking it was too long until I saw it on biscuitsandnavy. She's on the shorter side. Thanks for stopping by.

  10. I like the longer lengths on the pencil skirt...but then again I am 5'7 so that makes sense. But I do find them more sophisticated and polished.

    1. minnie maven - I can only guess the longer length would be refreshing for you. It seems there are only much shorter skirts available right now. Thanks for visiting :)
