Size S - I'm not a fan of epaulets. I could never figure out why other than I think they add weight to the shoulder. Now I realize it makes the garment look like part of a uniform. My usual S was fine for sizing. I guess that's sort of a bracelet sleeve there. I'm going by pics as this one wasn't very memorable.
Gold buttons, the trend I'm not liking too much right now. Notice that when it hangs open it's a bit limp. It's probably best to button this one all the way or most of the way. I suppose if you are taller and thinner, it will hang better and look nice open or buttoned.
A full length photo. Still unimpressive. Try not to yawn. 65% poly on this one. It didn't feel particularly nice or cozy and it's not lined, so $128 is a bit high for this. F21 or H&M would make a fine one of these. Zara would probably do a nicer version for $79.
Blurry, but I wanted you to see it buttoned. It gets cuter, but does not trigger stripesick for me. Folsom Prison Blues. See it on The Chic Chauffeur, on Megan Crew Reviews and on One Too Many Closets.

Are you into stripes for a blazer, or does it make you think of prisoners dressed up for dinner?

I'm not loving any of the striped jackets...stripes seem better suited to tees and sweaters, and even that great maxi dress you posted a while ago. The fit is nothing special and the look doesn't evoke really much of anything. (Well, if I had to say, it'd be a prison uniform ;)
ReplyDeleteJ Crew is making it so easy for me to hold on to my $$ lately---thanks for the review!
I got it: rock-salt(beat)-navy. You need a lil syncopation to make that thing flow. Kinda like my double-dutch songs and hand clap days from back in the day: My Momma, yo Momma, lived across the street, evr'y nite they had a fight & this is what they say: Thumbelina, dissafina... ;-)
ReplyDeleteI was really wondering what this looked like on, thanks Gigi. I like striped jackets. I have one, from a couple years back, the Anthro Hello Sunday (I think that's what it was called). It's an almost exact copy of a Givenchy jacket that was a few thousand bucks. J. Crew isn't the only retailer "inspired by" high end. Unlike this J. Crew jacket, the Anthro version is fitted and holds it shape very well despite being a knit. The Merriweather seems more like a cardigan to me.
ReplyDeleteoh, The Hello Sunday blazer was the best! Every time I am tempted by a striped blazer that is the model I'm thinking of...
ReplyDeleteThe fabric content doesn't sound great on this- and there's nothing special in the fit or details to make it stand out (it really should look good both open and buttoned)- back to the drawing board J Crew!
Maybe a little scary but I totally get you (I think!). During the knit % off, I didn't so much as glance at it so agree I didn't catch stripesick fever. The major deal breaker for me is the 65% poly. And oh dear, prison blues, yep, and it's not even black stripes.
ReplyDeleteLOL at "Folson Prison Blues". Great review! I tried it on this weekend and I was totally underwhelmed. Think the bright orange version is the better one.
ReplyDeleteOops! Got mixed up with the DB knit blazer that's offered in bright orange and navy.
DeleteGigi, I am with you- I am not fun of epaulets either. I feel stripes are enough- they just do not add much to the jacket.
ReplyDeletewide stripes = chain gang?
