J Crew - ringspun stripe henley

J Crew's ringspun stripe henley (58401, $49.50) is now on sale for $39.99. It comes in brilliant fuchsia, navy and nutmeg.

Size M -This top was looking a little small on the hanger, so I grabbed a M to try. I am not a huge fan of rugby stripes...ok nevermind. I'm stripesick, but I'm not an expert. Stripes are either thick or thin. They either float my boat (drowning!) or don't, so no need for me to bother about what type they are. The gold buttons were ok. They didn't make the top look more expensive and I thought it cheapened it a little, actually. Hmmm, it may not be the gold buttons. It might be the white contrast stitching that I didn't like. I do appreciate that it comes in two other colors. That's something different besides navy/white.

5'2"

Yeah, I don't like that contrast stitching. This top is making me think of long johns. I recall the top feeling just a little short to me, maybe by 1". Depending on how long you like your tops, it might not be ideal for long torsos or the tall.

An arrow showing where the size M hits me. So I think it runs TTS to one size too small if you have torso issues you want to keep a secret.

  1. You know what? If the placket isn't perfect, those stripes will look just a little off from one another and that will be cheaper looking. The gold buttons just happen to be a player. LOL. :)

I love henley type tops but haven't bought any in years because they all look horrible on the racks for the above mentioned reason. (I take that back, I have two from Boden from a few years ago that are sewn correctly.)

Maybe I am just a stickler but little things like that bug me.

I do like you in striped tops, but with so many out there, yeah, it's best to have the "feeling." ;)

    1. Dina - Yes, definitely need to have the feeling. When dealing w/sale items I'm trying to remember to look for the feeling rather than being swayed by how I feel about the price. *lol*

  2. I tried this one when I was in Florida and I was glad I didn't ship it to Canada and then return it. I also thought it looked cheap and the sleeves were weird, I didn't like where they hit me and how they were finished with the facing fabric.

  3. No likey! It looks cheap to me, agree about the contrast stitching. "Torso issues you want to keep a secret" made me spit my tea out through my nose, so thanks for the chuckle. Have a great day!

  4. I generally prefer thinner stripes--and have a tad of regret for getting the Older Maritime dress--was thinking of selling it but figure it's a good--"after the day at the Beach dress"--but--not to be contrary to everyone's opinion thus far--I like it on you! the gold buttons with the Navy are supercute!
