J Crew - final sale (mid Feb 2012)

updated 3/6

Here's the revised list of links to irl pics and/or comments about J Crew items on sale & promo. New cuts at the top.

Searching for something? Enter the product name or style number in the Search This Blog box on the right-hand side of the main page of this blog.

If I've reviewed the item, it should show up in the search. You can also search The Mothership to see if there is discussion about the item you're interested in. FYI, J Crew adjusts their prices, as pointed out in this discussion. It's possible that what I've noted here may bounce to a different price by the time you're reading. Also, there are more cuts than listed here. These are the ones I know for sure or caught my eye this time around.

Irl pic links for many of these are in the body of this post.

I have one black and ordered a second for a layering, Chanel look for the fanfare jacket in felted wool. I also got the peach blossom necklace to go on the peach (?) Natasha top. Irl pics of the black necklace.

* Beaded tassel necklace ($49.99)
* Bellamy suede ankle boots ($99.99) - on A Bigger Closet
* Biella high heel loafer
($99.99) - I wear 7.5, but tend wear size 8 in J Crew. I couldn't get my foot into a 7.5 at all. The 8 fit on one foot, but was tight on the other. The size 8.5 fit best, being just a smidge loose and at that point I figured these might run a bit small. A SA said she has a narrow foot and actually sized down one. I tried on all 3 sizes again and 8.5 was definitely the one that fit me. Because they're so high, my feet will definitely get a little puffier so went with the 8.5 - on Life's Divine, on Audreybella, on Handbag Aficionado and on Shopping the Closet

- This is suited best for a medium or larger wrist, imo. It's heavy and the decorative addition tends to turn to the underside of the wrist where it can't be seen.
* MacAlister shearling wedge boots ($169.99) -
I'm a 7.5M and often take 8 in J Crew shoes. I tried the size 7s on and they were definitely too tight. I got the 8s. Irl pics

* Brigid dress
($69.99) - Nice price, but this looks like a mess. It's like they took a silk sheath, cut out the neck, cut off the arms and bottom. Then sewed on a tinsel tweed mini. Notice it says serrated edges, which to me means they're sloppy and/or unfinished. Pass for me. If you've tried or own it, please share details.

* No. 2 pencil skirt in leopard - 2/16 ($89.99) - I often prefer regular size skirts, as opposed to petite. In this I definitely preferred the petite length. I tried 4, 6, P6 and P8. My preferred pencil skirt size is 4. I tsettled on the P8. With a rounder rear, I didn't want leopard on some vavoom. When I get my stomach weight dow, I'll have the waist taken in, if needed. * Boy shirt in blue vintage camp flannel - 2/8 cut ($49.99) - on Notes From the Dressing Room, on ShOperaRach and on AppGal

* Cowlneck tank ($12.99) - I have/like this in the ivory (S). It's lightweight, along the lines of a slub. More of a spring/summer top. Looked cute when I tried it w/a cardi. Because of the thinner material the cowlneck isn't perfect, but you have to adjust most cowlnecks anyway. Great price. I would consider it in black if they had it, but other than that not multiple worthy for me.

* Piqué polo - 2/22 promo ($29.50)
Pocket polka-dot tee ($29.99)
* Rhea popover in paisley ($69.99) - I got this in a 4. It fits exactly. Remember that I'm 5 mo postpartum. I still vacillate between 4, 6, XS and S. I've been leaning toward S and M as of late for the best fit. Given that the 4 fits well for me in this, I'd say you can take the smaller of your JC sizes. If you're not in between sizes, take your regular J Crew size. Note that if you have a larger chest, you could take the larger of your 2 JC sizes and still be ok, imo.
Size 4 - chest = 39.5", waist = 38.5", sweep = 41"
Size 6 - chest = 40.5", waist = 39.5", sweep = 42"

I like
* Crystal stripe-link necklace ($49.50)
* Fanfare jacket ($99.99) - This is one of my favorite fanfare pieces. The 6 fit the best, but the shoulders are a little 80s. Might try the 8 on in-store to see if it makes a difference.

 * Hacking jacket in tipped double-serge wool - 6P - Been loving since its release. The fit and feel makes me long for cool weather.

* Perfect-fit ribbon henley ($19.99 & $24.99) - Size S

  2. I was waiting for this promo to get the Matinee in navy. It's a great spring jacket IMO. I tried it again in store to make sure that the sizing hadn't changed from last year and the 0 fits great, like the one that I tried last year (one size down from my regular jacket/coat size, which is a 2). Thanks for the list, as usual. Are you getting something?

    1. Ema - I am trying the saddle belt and matinee in a petite. I tried it in regular and was unimpressed by the fit on me. I thought maybe that extra inch off here or there might make the difference. I really love the Natasha top despite its slinky buttons that are prone to opening. I have vivid poppy and the wildcat. I love them so much and have been wearing them like crazy. I decided to get the antique white.
