J Crew - 30% now ends tonite (+ factory)

SHOPNOW for 30% off final sale at J Crew ends tonite.
You may or may not have noticed, but the Factory section 'stayed open' this week and the 30% off applies there as well. We know the quality of merch varies between retail & factory, but great thing about J'Crewlet (factory0 in this case is free shipping on all items. Prices listed are before the additional discount:

Factory picks

* End-on-end camp shirt ($39.50) - I own this in S. See it on Egyptomaniac.

* Lodge puffer vest ($89.50) - I have a retail puffer vest. I wear it so much that full price would still equate to an excellent cost/wear.

* Mini-tassel printed gauze scarf ($24.50) - What a bargain. 4 or 5 patterns to choose from. Three color patterns available in the plaid scarf ($24.50)

* Pin-slim belt ($16.50) - Thumbs up on Factory belts.

* Sherpa-lined shrunken twill jacket ($108) - Since Factory doesn't have petites, I pay attention to the detail at the sleeve of jackets. I.e. this wouldn't work for me because the sleeve would probably be hard to roll w/the zipper. I'm into the sherpa, though.

* Stripe drop-shoulder sweater ($44.99) - Machine wash. Always worth a consideration.

* Stripe leggings ($29.50) - Different color than the $75 big-stripe leggings on the retail side, but these are waaaaaay cheaper.

* Tissue stripe turtleneck tee ($26.50)

* Tortoise-wrapped crystal bangles ($39.50) - I super want these, but I have crystal bangles w/out the tortoise.

* Wool herringbone professor blazer ($168) - Tipped, like the Lexington.

Land's End Canvas - Friends & Family

Land's End Canvas is having a Friends & Family promo.
Save 25% off + free shipping thru tonite, Tue, 9/27. Use promo code SAVE25 with pin 1231.

Ribbed open crewneck ($29.50) - Love the elbow patches! I like this red & the teal green is pretty, too.

Super lightweight striped funnelneck ($29.50) - Stripes for the cooler temps. I'm thinking camel, red & orange for my fall color story. If I end up having one, that is. This would fit right in.

Brushed cotton twill shirt ($49.50) - Very similar to J Crew's buffalo check boy shirt.

Seersucker jacket ($49.99) - This is probably more for spring/summer. I like the white piping.

Wool flannel cuffed pants ($79.50) - The colors in JC's café capri in houndstooth wool are lighter and show off the plaid a bit better. However their pants are sold out, so these might be worth a try.

Lightweight twill overcoat ($59.99) - Good deal before the 25% off. Also, good if you prefer a single breasted trench style coat.

Aran crewneck sweater ($89.50)

A few more...

* Chambray military shirtdress ($59.50)
* Down vest ($79.50) - Tomato red is pretty.
* Emma classic ballet flats ($34.99) - Golden sun denim & persimmon denim are my faves.
* Heritage jean jacket ($59.50)
* Linen t-shirt dress ($34.99) - on Shopping With M
* Striped sailor tunic ($39.50)
* Utility jacket ($39.99) - A great markdown price. Internal Mp3 player pocket. Hey, it's the little things.

I only have one shirt from Land's End Canvas, the linen officer shirt in white, M ($24.99). I tried both and kept M over my usual size for a slightly slouchier fit. I'm liking some of their preppy basics, so there will probably be another order in my future. I also like that returns are accepted at Sears. Very convenient. The 25% F&F promo is also good at (regular) Lands End. If your kid/niece/nephew wears a school uniform, you might check out Lands End. I have no experience with price comparison; just sharing info. Use promo code SAVEFF with pin 9132 for Lands End. It also ends tonite. Free shipping is good to the US & Canada.

Let's Talk - guest blogger Respect the Shoes

Thanks so much for Gigi for giving me an opportunity to guest post for her while she and Mr. G preps the world for the arrival of Mini G. Gigi has allowed me to offer up a topic for her Let’s Talk series and I thought we could discuss a subject I’m sure we all have thought quite a bit about ourselves on in our fashion-loving hearts – quantity vs quality.

As many of us are starting to feel just a faint tinge of cool in the air, I’ve been loving to look at all the new fall arrivals for this year and have thoughts of cozy woolens dancing in my head. I think some of my fave retailers are knocking it out of the park this season. Back are structured shapes I adore, a bright kaleidoscope of colors, animal prints, capes, dots, chiffon-y maxis with chunky knits, buckled to the max footwear.

My various online wish lists currently overfloweth with assorted lovelies for fall, and with a limited budget to play with, I am having difficulty narrowing my selections and figuring what I should spend my dollars on. Should I narrow my choices to only a few quality pieces, or be able to buy pretty much everything I want if I look at lower-end options?

When I first started having my own money and actually wanted to spend it on fashion – instead of on NKOTB paraphernalia or 100 Grand candy bars, have you tried them? – I was all about the quantity. I inwardly gawked at the idea of paying full price for anything. My favorite haunts were department store super-sale sections, flea markets and the Gap. My first collection of suits for my college internship interviews were from Joyce Leslie. I was all about building my closet with anything, everything.

A few years passed. I was getting to a place where I started working full time and I was becoming comfortable with my finances, and had disposable income to spend. I started coveting and began frequenting higher-end retailers and purchased pieces with better quality fabrics, jewelry whose plating didn’t immediately wear off on my skin, purses with serial numbers embossed on the leather. I bought less but I knew I was buying better – I wasn’t just building a closet anymore, I was building a wardrobe.

And we come to me now – and honestly I still consider myself a pretty money conservative shopper, even though I do shop a lot. I put as much thought into buying ten $20 items as I do for one $200 item. I think about how an item would work into my current wardrobe and if I actually would wear the item (versus loving the idea of an item) and how it fits me. And yes, this is sometimes in spite of fabric or craftsmanship or that "cute" little lining no one but me would notice anyways.

I understand how indulging in one pima cotton camisole is more worthwhile than a dozen poly blends. How a well-structured bag will last me for years. But I also like to try new pieces that are out of my style comfort zone and may potentially tire of in a few months. Sometimes a knit skirt is a just a knit skirt, regardless of brand or price. And there are times I just can’t help getting that awesome bag full of goodies deal.

So what about you ladies? When it comes to fashion, how do you determine what you spend your money on? What items do you consider worth a splurge? What is your shopping philosophy – quality or quantity?

Let's talk...

Fall Fab Five: Fast In Together

Gigi welcomes guest blogger...

With Fall quickly approaching, many of us are thinking of what chic pieces we should be on the lookout for to get our wardrobes ready. I've come up with 5 totally fab items that will surely give your wardrobe some pizazz!

1. Animal Print Accessories- Animal print/calf hair accessories were very popular last Fall and Winter and they are going to be hot again this year. Belts, purses, shoes--its all good. But you can take the animal print a step further with scarves and other cold weather items. If you are having problems wondering how to wear them, think of them as a neutral items--which means they "match" with just about anything!

Similar pumps here, here, here and here

Similar scarves here, here and here

2. A Trench Coat- A good trench coat, in any color is definitely a great wardrobe addition. Going with the typical khaki color is not passe at all! This Fall you will see many in salmon-like colors, different variations of tan and also in animal prints. On me- Lands' End Canvas jacket, Louis Vuitton scarf, Talbots trousers. Second trench was also featured in this post.

Similar trench here, here and here

3. Skinny Jeans/Jeggings- A good pair of jeans, as any woman/man knows, goes a long way! Skinny jeans have been pretty popular for a while now and even with flare jeans creeping up as the next popular pick--the skinny jean still rules in my book. I recently bought a pair from Old Navy that I LOVE--their Rock Star Jegging/skinny jeans are wonderful!

4. Stars and Stripes- Stripes were pretty hot all Spring and Summer and they will still be cool thsi Fall! Along with them are many items with star accents--I'm not kidding. Wearing both or either is great fun!

Sweater Dress- Yoox

Sweater from Land's End Canvas

5. High Heel Loafers- I do not own a pair of these yet, but I am longing for a pair! (below, Nine West) They are my idea of "classic chic"--great for work and play. Shoes like these, which can be worn with jeans or slacks always look stylish and posh.

Similar loafers here, here and here

Fast Style Tip: You don't have to try every single one of these items out--one or two of them will help your closet liven up for the cooler weather coming. Also, many sores already have sales on Fall items, if you can believe it. Be on the look out now for some great deals. Some of the stores I'd check out are Urban Outfitters, Gap, Old Navy and Piperlime.

Which of the "Fab 5" will you try?!

Mall Notes - H&M

Louise of Cosmetics Bee recently wrote about horse prints and highlighted a horse print tunic from H&M. I saw her post before going out to the doctor and after my appointment, decided to hobble over to the mall to see what I could find. Three weeks post-baby I look ok, but nowhere how I expected to look or feel. I still have a lot of fluid in my body, including swollen feet. Why let that stop me! I needed to get out and it was probably the best solo 30 minutes of my week.

I did 2 laps around the store and couldn't find anything with horses on it. Based on Louise's post and and a comment by Ema, I had my eye out for a button down, a tunic & a scarf -- all w/the same horse print. I asked a sales rep and he said that it might be on clearance and they probably didn't have anymore. I know bloggers know the merch better than the employees in many cases, so I ignored him and did a 3rd lap. I ended up finding the blouse (pictured). There was only a 2 and a 12. I tried on the 12 for giggles, but it wasn't exciting as a button down. I ended up finding the scarf (not pictured), which is only $9.95. It has the horse print and polka dots on it. Very cute. Never did see the tunic in my store.

($24.95)

I also saw this dress, which is only $14.95. It comes in this orange color...

($14.95)

....this blue print, which is way cuter irl than this stock photo...
($14.95)

...and this snakeskin print. There are 2 or 3 additional colors and were merchandised at the front of the store. Thumbs up on this bargain. You can layer a tank under, add tights & boots for fall.

($14.95)

I've seen this dress a few times when I've gone onto the H&M website, but I didn't see it in-person. I like the colors and, of course, stripes.
($39.95)

I recvd a 20% off one item offer from H&M via email. You just have to show the offer on your phone to have it applied to your purchase. It's good thru Mon, 9/26. I can forward it to you if you like. You can email me - gigiofca@gmail - and put HM coupon in the header. Give me a minute to forward it to you. Sometimes I'm only working w/one hand these days.

Fall Fab Five: Effortless Anthropologie

Gigi welcomes guest blogger...

Keep your Spring flowers. You can have your lazy summer days. And while I'll always say let it snow, let it snow, let it snow, let it be known that when it comes to fashion Fall owns my heart. That's right -- capital F. After the layers have been shed and the sunscreen has been smeared I'm ready to cover up again in rich colors, bold styles, and exciting cuts. After scouring the runway shows I think I've found a few investment pieces to buy though this post will focus on my midrange purchase list. 2011 has been underwhelming so far but with fall comes the promise of exciting shopping days ahead. When Gigi asked me to write this guest post the hardest part was culling my list to 5 items. So instead I've picked 5 ideas that have me captivated (and counting my pennies).

1. Monochromatic looks.
Playing with color tones is one of my favorite fashion games. This fall that idea goes to a whole new level. Though monochromatic looks are challenging to pull off they are incredibly alluring when done right. The shots above are from two recent J.Crew catalogues and both illustrate the right way to create the look: slightly darker on the bottom with simple, clean lines. Leave the prints in the closet when assembling this outfit. In both cases a final pop of complementing color cements the look -- on the left it's the yellow coat while on the right the orange bag does the trick.

2. Colorful Denim!
Why settle for basic blue when you can choose from colorful hues? It's a throwback to the 80s I admit but retailers have been smart to render these rainbow jeans in modern cuts. The flare is coming back I know though I'm not quite ready to revisit that cut yet. I'm eager to say ta ta to skinny jeans so the best place to settle is on straight legs. Anthropologie's Pilcro Stet Slims ($98) are the winners in my book so far. They look great on my curvy frame and are comfy all day long. They work as neutrals (yes, even the pink!) when combined with other soft and saturated tons. Pair the gold jeans with a brown or black sweater; the pink with a creamy ivory top and the moss with grey or blue. One other color that's everywhere is red for denim. Bright red has already had it's day here in NYC and now for fall we're moving on to rusty reds and clay-infused versions.

3. A scout shoulder bag.
A girl can never own too many bags, right? Well, what if all the bags you want are the same style? Gulp. It's going to be hard to pick one from this pretty bunch. On the left we have Anthro's adorable Steam-Powered Satchel ($288), a mini scout that is both soft to the touch thanks to yummy leather and tempting thanks to different tones of that leather. Then again, perhaps something more classic will do. Something like Kate Spade's Essex Scout ($395), a classic for sure in natural leather. If trendy is more your thing then turn your eyes to J.Crew's Edie Purse in Italian Calf Hair ($448). I wish the calf hair wasn't real -- faux is fine by me -- but the look of the bag is undeniably attractive. It takes the classic shape and gives it a modern twist. They're all small enough not to break your back but big enough to fit your wallet, cell and necessities.

4. This whole outfit.
Sometimes you don't need to mess with suggestion. I'd have to try on the dress to see how long it actually is. But assuming it approaches my knees I'd belt this, add a blazer and rock it to work. The shot above is from Neiman Marcus, and the items are Diane Von Furstenberg's Fluerette Shift Dress ($345) in rosy and Stuart Weitzman's Antique Leather Wedge Boot ($695).

5. One crazy item.
I'm happy to see that both lace skirts and leather skirts have carried over from last fall to this year's collections. Now I'd like to add one more option -- a multi-textural skirt like the one above from Adam's upcoming fall collection. I'm not sure where I'd wear it. I'm not sure what I'd wear it with. None of that matters! Sometimes you need to take risks to keep your closet interesting.

Thanks again to Gigi for the guest posting opportunity! Come say hello over at Effortless Anthropologie, where the community is not-so-patiently waiting for Anthro's fall collection to debut.
