I think America's faaaaavorite dressy casual outfit is a black top w/jeans. Next time you're shopping, check out the number of people, esp women, who have on a black top/shirt/sweater with jeans. I call it the
cop out outfit. I try to avoid it. I mean,
really avoid it. If I do wear a black top w/jeans, I try to bump it up by wearing an unexpected shoe, jacket or jewelry. On this day, I think I went out only for a short bit and decided to quickly build an outfit around the jacket. Yeah, yeah, I see how easy it is to end up in black jeans and a top, but I still try to stay way from it. The jacket is from Forever 21. It's on the heavier side and the texture is brocade, better than what I'd expect from F21. Well actually, I have to say that they tend to do some of their jackets very well. Definitely keep them on your radar for fun jackets if you shop there. I usually find at least one goodie/year.

If I were to wear this again, I'd add jewelry. I might have avoided it because of the huge stone on my wedges.

I see the black top/jeans all the time. I even did it yesterday to grab the Lolli pants for my mom. (Yes I went to JC the day after Christmas. I need an intervention.) Granted the top was the black Cashmere Tee - which BTW was inspired by DaniBP! I added my new Boutonierre Blazer a necklace and my spikey Louboutin flats.

Heehee...so true about the black top/jeans outfit, but I actually happen to like it myself. I usually do add accessories and a great handbag for visual interest though. :)
ReplyDeleteSo funny. I missed the casual/dressy, everywoman memo! I have very few black tops that I wear alone. Black isn't my best color (as my 11 yr old & husband have told me, bluntly but nicely!). I *always* layer black with something else, and rarely do I wear black with jeans. I have a black ruffled cardigan sweater that I adore (WHBM '07?), and black/white leopard print & paisley cardigans, and a chic little black sweater with feathers around the neck that I wear with skirts & boots. Oh, and one of my favorites: a black, cowl sweater that I wear with a gray suede skirt. But a plain ol' black top/sweater & jeans? Me? Nah ;-)

ReplyDeleteI love the jacket! I don't wear much black, but recent I wore a form fitting black turtle neck with short black ruffle skirt to a holiday gathering, and everyone said I looked chic :). I have to check out F21 for a fab coat like yours!

Love the coat on you. You have just described what I wear 95% of the time, oops. Black has so many redemming qualities though, doesn't show the dirt, makes you look thinner - I could go on and on. It is terrible for blog photos - you just can't see any deatils.

Also, sometimes I just suck it up and wear the open toed shoes since I own so many. I knew it'd be an issue and I put off the trend for as long as possible
