Gigi's Gear - Anthrofied

Woo hoo! I'm not wearing jeans on the bottom. It takes a lot to motivate me to wear a skirt when it's very cold. I like to feel cozy. I've read about people doubling and tripling tights. I never knew! I'll have to try it. In the meantime, you'll probably see more pant outfits on me like this one.

Jacket (6): Anthropologie boucle de souffle jacket by Elevenses (Similar color here, here and here)
Cords (28s): J Crew FA08 (Cords here, here, here and here)

Here's the blouse close up, which I wore on another day w/a navy cardi and jeans. The 6 is too big, but hey...it was on sale for $20.

Top (6): Anthropologie silk blouse by Lil or Odille, sku 19069558 (Pretty prints here, here and here)
Cardigan (XS): J Crew (Similar here, here and love this!)
Shoes: J Crew FA08 (Similar color here, here, here, here, here and spectators, my fave)

I'm not sure what you'll be seeing on this blog in the next month or so. I was thinking about taking Jan off, but decided against it. I definitely want to continue and I think if I take time off, I might not come back. I don't feel particularly inspired by the store offerings right now. I wasn't out in the stores last winter so I don't know what was going on. At this point in time, we've seen a ton of promos and a lot of the merchandise is gone. I like to share & discuss items here that can be ordered online or picked up in stores. I know it's not always possible, but I try. At the moment I'm not interested in trying on clothes and I said, pickings are a bit slim. There are signs of spring, but I'm not really ready to put my mind on that. I'm trying to delve deep into my winter wardrobe and wear most of my items while weather appropriate. I'm sure I have pics of items that I haven't shared yet, so you'll definitely see them. For those of you that blog, you understand that it's a cycle to figure out what to present. I'm sure I'll find a new rhythm or revise my former one.

  1. Gigi, I can understand (I think) how you might tire of the retail offerings....especialy after the holidays when almost everything in the stores looks sort of tired! I work in retail part time so it all starts to look the same to me....until I come to your blog and read your reviews. I truly appreciate all of the time and effort you put into trying on a huge variety of items and giving your honest critique! Believe me, even though I rarely comment, I read you every day!

  2. G

I really love to read you at 6am but dont feel bad about taking a break, we all need them

  3. I have been thinking of challenging myself to wear all of the seasonally appropriate items in my closet before buying anything new, on sale or not. I have so many nice items that get pushed aside and not worn enough because something new comes along.

It can be difficult and time consuming to blog, especially at your rate. Whatever you post, it is always informative and interesting!

  4. I love your outfit...one of my all-time favorites on you, actually! :)

I completely understand about the feelings of needing a blog break and support any decision you make regarding it.

    Have a great day! :)

  5. I can understand taking the time off,it must be pretty time consuming to blog although I love reading it. I haven't found much out there that's tempting either, might need to try one of those 30 for 30 challenges I have seen some of the other bloggers try. Time to shop the closet or give to Goodwill. Happy New Year!

  6. Gigi, I check your blog even before *gasp* the Mothership! I will soooo miss you if you take a break, but I totally hear ya! I haven't been posting hardly at all the last couple of months. I feel like things I get excited about at first, usually sizzle out before I can even post about them! I'm hoping to pick back up more in Jan!
Everyone will be here waiting for you when you come back full-force!!

  7. Do what works for you. "Gigi's Gone Shopping in her own Closet" would be a fun January respite.

  8. Although I'm fairly new to the blogging world...I know what you mean. Sometimes I wonder how long I'll be able to do this for. That's why rather than just focusing on fashion my blog is more lifestyle...so I'm hoping I never get bored. It must take a lot of time to find and review items for everyone...mad props to you! I say keep it up!! and you know...pull some of those old items out and mix and match...bet a lot of ppl have older items they're not wearing and will be inspired when they see some styles from earlier this year. :)

  9. Love your Anthro top!

It's usually now through maybe March? that seems like the looongest part of the year for me. Holidays are over (almost), then here on the east coast you're stuck with ugly leafless trees, dead grass (unless there's *snow*, which can be just as tiring when you have too much of it), and cold weather w/not too much going on.

I can't imagine blogging everyday. I'm ashamed sometimes when I see how much time I spend looking at clothes & clothing blogs on line. I can't imagine squeezing in writing reviews & irl pic's too.

  10. First time poster here: I like your blog and have it added to my dashboard. I would miss it if it you were gone, but we all need time to recharge our batteries.

  11. Hey Gigi,
I like your musings on life, culture, tv shows, the fashion industry, etc. I thought your post about your visit to Wal-Mart was a riot. Do some fun stuff like that to keep your creative juices flowing; no IRLs of this-that-and-the-other required. And Gigi's Gear is *always* bumpin' Don't sleep on that, please!! Your readers love how you put stuff together. LOL.

  12. Yes, I definitely think we should "shop" your closet. LOL. That would be FAB! :)

I love my Boucle de Souffle and own it in the ivory color. I wore it on Christmas Eve with the sequined tee in the light pink color and the gorg champagne bubble pencil skirt (which then had a seam rip, but not in the lining, only the outer fabric--grr--thank goodness for my Christmas present of a sewing machine). Anyhoo, before the malfunction, the boucle allowed me the chance to have the perfect topper to the outfit. Guess who's doing a repeat on New Year's Eve? LOL.

Look forward to your posts, however they look!

  13. Gigi,
I love your blog, its one of my daily reads. I love your commentary and I am so glad that you are honest about what fits and what is a quality piece for the price. If you take a break, come back! I also love the idea of gigi shops her own closet. I also miss your target reviews!
    Thanks for everything!
    Chrissy

  14. i hear you about having the blahs when it comes to fashion. i'm feeling that same exact way. i blame it on uninspired offerings. how can we get excited about the same ol' same ol. we need something new! different!

breaks are good; they reenergize and invigorate. there would be a gaping hole in the blogosphere if you didn't come back, so don't even consider that.;) go on hiatus, get your groove back and come out posting like a mad, shopping woman! ;)

  15. gigi, totally understand about not getting the "feeling" this time of year. i will be traveling in india for most of january and as a result, have barely shopped this fall/winter (in an effort to save $). it has been interesting to see what i really want versus what i need...

lawgirl makes a great point: you can write about whatever strikes your fancy. it doesn't have to be clothes-related. you know i love the "let's talk" posts.

    keep on keeping on!

  16. OK, I,m selfish. I don't want you to take a break! **runs behind the display mannequin** I really love reading your blog, because you go above and beyond when reviewing and modeling clothes from various retailers-- but also for your "can we talk" posts, which I find incredibly interesting and thought provoking.

So, just know Miss Gigi, you will be greatly missed on your well deserved break, and hope you return soon because your daily POV is much enjoyed! Thank you so much for all that you do!

  17. Another vote here for seeing you post about bringing out older or less frequently worn items from your closet, and posting some new ways to wear them! Or maybe some posts that are less labor-intensive and more reflective, along the lines of "my favorite purchase ever," outfits associated with your favorite memories, your top 10 style tips or clothing items, etc.

  18. I think it would totally be groovy to see more of your own "personal style daily flow" and how you "work what you've got!" Your reviews are MUCH appreciated but I honestly can't say I have a true idea of your own style--and would just love to see more of that! But then again I miss FFM IRL's too and wish she would do more of those! Anywho-be-loo do what makes you happy and love what you do--if you aren't loving it anymore maybe a break would be cathartic.

  20. Hi Gigi,
You really work hard on your blog
and it shows. I appreciate all
you put in to it. Your blog
    is my favorite fashion blog.
Take the time you need to re-charge. We will be here waiting
    for you!
I find this time of the year
right after the holidays, to go
by so slow. I agree with (txmom)
    about the retail offerings, not
    much to look at.

  21. I *love* this outfit! I totally understand if you need to take a break (we all need to at various points in our lives). But, please know that you will be missed dearly! Like Lindsey B., your blog is one of my first reads in the morning! Thanks for all that you do!

  22. Gigi, I read your blog almost everyday and love it. Like you, there is very little that interests me at J Crew, Anthro, Ann Taylor, Banana. I have a lot of clothes and am on a clothes diet for January and perhaps February. I don't need anything. I imagine your blog is a ton of work, especially if it becomes a chore. I think a break can be great. Would love to have you check in once a week:-)

  23. I love your blog and think it has helped keep my from being too much of a frumpy stay-at-home mom who lives in the middle of nowhere, sc. I don't comment much since I don't think I have anything to add to a wonderful blog. I know it must take a lot of time and really appreciate the time you put into it.

  24. Love the blog, Gigi, and love following your original turn of mind! Would love to see what you find in your closet and how you put it together… but agree that there comes a point when everything in stores and on sites looks alike, and looks tired. I used to get deepest ennui in early February, resulting in some really peculiar hair colors. Have finally learned to rush to a bookstore rather than do that. I know from reading you that your judgment is sound, and that whatever path you choose to follow will be the right choice for the time.

  26. I too love your blog, however I cannot imagine how much work it is to maintain it. I especially love your links to J Crew's sale items and how I can see them on real people. Anyway, I can empathize with how you might need (better yet, deserve) a break. Thanks for all that you do!

  27. it is tough to get excited about clothes, weather, stepping outside in january/february so i'm not surprised you would take a break. this is super sale season, so old clothes that have been hanging around awhile. it will all come back. don't know about CA but i remember it getting pretty grey in NYC & Ohio this time of year. Hard to get inspired!
    We'll see you soon!
    enjoy any hiatus you choose!!

  28. I think after Christmas shopping everyone wants a break from it! I read a blog and every Wednesday the gal has a "What I Wore Wednesday" post which has a summary of the some of her week's attire. It's cute and maybe you could do something once a week like that.

  29. Hey Gi -
I guess everyone has these doldrums eh? I haven't felt like shopping or buying much lately myself. Which for me.....is well....enough for my hubby to have asked me several times if anything is wrong LOL - like seriously concerned hahahah!!!

Anyways, I love your blog and there would be a HUGE hole in the blogosphere if you stopped, so - find your muse..... we will wait. :-)

  30. Glaydies! Thanks for chiming in. I appreciate the thoughts, suggestions, feedback and general blog love. I will definitely be posting *something* almost every day because I don't want to lose the rhythm.

Why is it still so hard for me to spell rhythm. I have to try like 5x before getting it right.

Kathy - That's exactly it. I keep seeing new things and forget about what I *just* bought. Not a good habit. I'm moving towards changing that.
