Talbots jacquard bow dress runs in regular, petite & woman sizes. The color pattern is called gingerbread rose ja, which probably stands for jacquard.
Size 6P - The fit was great on this for me. Great dress. Check it out

Looks great on you!!!! I wish mine had it in the store.... I'll have to order online. You might want to take a look at the suede tie booties. VERY well made, reminds me of old Crew made shoes - leather sole, nice quality suede --- Got for the 40% off the other day. A Steal! They are really hot!
ReplyDeleteI was in Talbot's yesterday and fell in love! I think I'll be shopping there for a while. I love their elegant, fresh and updated style. The dress looks so good on you. I think my only drawback is that their clothes may be a litte too dressy for my everyday casual style, but I'm going to figure it out.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, this dress is perfect on you GIgi!
ReplyDeleteLove the print and the fit is incredible!
Wow, looks amazing on you! Very classy and elegant, but still modern.
ReplyDeletei really love that dress on you :)
ReplyDeleteThe dress looks fantastic on you! And amazing - a decent length - unlike "you know who"!! Did you keep it??? I wish my Talbots got dresses in - unfortunately, they seldom do - it's a small store. May have to look at this dress on-line, though.
ReplyDeleteClassic and fun; love it on you!
ReplyDeleteold fashioned style--macabre print...noooo!
ReplyDeleteNow Ms. Gigi, you know you look too cute and too fine in that dress. I hope you add it to your wardrobe soon, as it's quite stunning.
ReplyDeletework.that.dress. (***three finger-snaps for the fierceness***)
Milljcrew - I think you're talking about these booties. I have some Talbots flats, but no pumps yet. A leather sole is great. Thanks for
ReplyDeletePatina - Some of the casual items are cute. Think in pieces, not head-to-toe. Like I could see you in the sequined boyfriend cardi over a graphic tee & jeans. You already have a cardi like that, but you et the idea.
RosaLovesDC, Andi & Veronika - Thanks for visiting :-)
Elizabeth in MO - Absolutely no worries about oversharing in this dress ;-).
Slastena - Good to see you.
Anon/6:25 PM - *lol* I love the old fashioned style. Talbots is doing a 50s revival. Thanks for talking about the dress & not attack moi. ;-)
buffy10011 - I tried it on early in the week & thought long & hard about it. I love vintage styles & you know one issue is that our modern bodies don't always fit into the old cuts. They're either really small for me, esp in the waist, or really large. The odds are I won't have a place to wear it, but I didn't want to let it slip by. I will make an occasion for it as I've suggested others do in their lives ;-)
I think this looks lovely... I like the 50s vibe personally - I can see you with a lovely cocktail and heels at a holiday mixer no problem...
ReplyDeleteThat dress is lovely and very flattering, in my opinion. Glad you picked it up.
ReplyDeleteI love this dress, very pretty. I may have to check out my local Talbots soon. Years ago the little old lady I used to rent from told me it was her favorite store, thus I've never stopped in!
ReplyDeleteGigi, have you seen their spring fashion show pictures? I am drooling over pretty much everything.
ReplyDeleteThis dress caught my eye in the catalogue. It looks really good on you. I worry like you that I wouldn't have many opportunities to wear it. I'm getting over that though, and pulling out beautiful clothes even when I'm running to the grocery store. They give me such pleasure, why leave them in the closet until the "right" time?
Gigi,
ReplyDeleteThe shoes I'm talking about are the bow suede platforms. They are in the "heels" section. They come in black and brown (which I ended up getting both once I saw how well made they were). Plus, you can switch out the ribbons, an it changes up the look. I went to Michael's and bought some different ribbons, wayyyy cute. Try them :)
Oh, I got those same shoes, Milljcrew! Love them. I got the bark color. I also got the platform booties in black, the ones that lace up (Gigi, I found them!). I am sooooooo into Talbots lately.
ReplyDeleteGigi,
ReplyDeleteI have trouble with Talbot's dresses because I find them too big in the chest/ribcage area. I know it's difficult for you to judge but would you say that this is close to the way J crew fits in your size or did you have to size down in Talbot's? I wear a 0 at J crew especially in the chest but even a 2P has been too big in the past. Second question - is this dress too formal for work if I wear it with a denim jacket or a black cardigan? I was wondering if the fabric is really shiny? Thank you!
I really appreciate all of your pictures of outfits! Thank you.
Leah
Gorgeous dress, and looks great on you! Thanks for the pic!
ReplyDeleteClassy! Elegant! Chic!
ReplyDeleteGreat review Gigi... just linked to it on Red Chair Confessions!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the addtl comments! I also appreciate any related sharing, i.e. the bow suede hoes.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Jenner - I am sure that I responded to this question, but maybe it was to someone else & in another thread. I usually wear 4 or 6P in J Crew. I'm 128, 5'2", 34C. It seems I am a PS for sure in the Talbots dresses. Numerically I was a 4P for a couple of things, but 6P for others. HTH a bit. It seems women that have very thin frames or are thin are having fit issues. I don't think Talbots should cut smaller. They've already challenged their customer base enough. I do think they should be sure to have some 0s and 2s for those that are currently sized out.
As far as work, I think the dress will still look on the dressy side with a black cardigan. If you can wear flats w/it, that would take it down a notch. I like your idea of a denim jacket with it. I don't find the fabric to be very shiny. Some of the brown thread is a rust color metallic, which is very beautiful. That's the part that's shiny, but there's not a ton of that threading, so the overall dress is not shiny. The cut is a 50s party dress and that's what makes it more for going out, imo. Esp in contrast to the silhouettes we're seeing right now which are the fuller tops, open cardigans and skinny jeans. It will depend on your workplace if you can wear this or not. I could wear it, but everyone would ask where I'm going. I got it and will wear it to something fun, but it's not so precious that it has to be at night or for an event.
Sophie - Thanks for the link love ;-)
