J Crew - watercolor floral scarf

J Crew's watercolor floral potpourri scarf (23288) was discussed in this post on The Mothership. The image is from SquirtE on Polyvore. I am not clear if this is the papaya one or the other option that's available. I haven't been to J Crew in a week, so I haven't seen it in-person.

Color CCA- Cotton candy

ETA 2/13: Thank you, Ema, who cleared up the confusion about the 2 scarves in this post on her blog:

Color code CCA - Cotton candy

Color code PPA - Papaya
- Also see how Fabulous Florida Mommy styled it.

Other ideas...

Simply Vera - Vera Wang - At Kohl's. Remember to look for a coupon code if shopping online.

Old Navy watercolor floral scarf -  The 'warm combo.' Use ONGET30 to save 30% off one adult item. Or use ONGET40 to save 40% off one adult item if you are an ON/BR/GAP cardholder. Stack with THANKYOU for an additional $10 off. Unsure when the promo ends.

Old Navy watercolor scarf - The 'cool combo.'

Loft - painterly blooms scarf - Me loveth. It looks great w/the coral sweater they show.

Loft - springtime posies scarf - Not my color palette, but the pinks are pretty.

Brazen - ladies in the park scarf - There are ladies on here, not flowers. The graphic yields a watercolor look from a distance.

What do you think about watercolor floral scarves? Also, if you can clarify info on the J Crew version, it may help someone.

  1. Okay, so I'm really confused. I have the J. Crew scarf with the (23288) style number, and I don't think it matches the picture of the first scarf. Am I totally off base here? Please help!

  2. I ordered this scarf and received the wong color. Genny had the same problem--she referred me to a helpful and knowledgeable CSA who told me that the wrong photo for item #23388 had been posted. The color you've pictured here is called cotton candy, even though when pictured in the site it was called papaya. The papaya color is actually the mauve, charcoal, and papaya watercolor potpourri print as seen in the mini skirt and swing coat.

Anyway, I am happy that the right scarf is on the way, an the papaya/watercolor potpourri is so cute I might keep it too.

  3. Hexicon,

Do you still have the CSA's contact information. TIA!

  4. The one that Fabulous Florida Mommy has on her blog is the one that is on its way to me (hopefully it's the right one! Now I'm nervous). I also love the one you have posted Gigi. Such beautiful colors mixed together! I love watercolor floral scarves, although one to two is enough for my wardrobe.

  7. None of these comments have cleared up the confusion so far. Do I have the wrong style # posted for this scarf? Or does it come in 2 colors on the same style number...?

  8. If I wasn't "yogagirl" I'd be "scarfgirl!" J. Crew's scarves are too expensive--I think of scarves as somewhat disposable--I wear em to death and then get rid of em. I mostly pick up scarves at Indian Kiosks or at Marshall's and TJ's for under 20 bucks. I recently bought the J. Crew Cashmere silk scarf for about 50.00 and the thing is falling apart. I won't fork out that kinda money on a scarf again-- and it was against my better judgement to do it in the first place-- but at the time the Warm Wisteria color had me all "dizzied up!" I really like the Loft Scarves you pointed out Gigi! and of course the J. Crew one's are gorgeous right now too!

  9. Gigi and all, the color code of the scarf that you have pictured is CCA, while the PAP (papaya) is the color of the poutpourri mini (same style 23288).
I took IRL pics of both last Saturday and will put up on the blog soon! They are both very pretty!

  11. Go to the Overstocks section on Lands End--Gigi and others. Some gorgeous scarves for very little money. I got two of the silk dot scarves for $7.99 and I have bought most of the knit and other cotton scarves that are on sale in the overstocks section. They are all well made and run around $9.99--$19.99. I love scarves:)

Gigi, maybe do a post on these if possible.

  13. I just saw that first JC scarf in the store tonight. Definitely cute, but not amazing. Very springy.

I bought the last one of a different scarf in a print more like the potpourri print I think... white background with black, lilac, guava colors. No idea what it's called, but I like the colors a bit better than the one I saw tonight ... more versatile to wear day and night.

  14. Cute, but F21 will pry come up with a knockoff by spring, so I wouldn't pay the jcrew price.

  15. Rynetta, I may be reached at hexicon at yahoo dot com (will not be able to get e-mail until tomorrow night tho).

Sooo, after all the whining and pining and heroic efforts by JC CSAs, my cotton candy waterfloral scarf arrived today and I am a little underwhelmed, though I plan to keep it. It's pretty but the print is more softer and washed out than I expected. The "wrong" watercolor potpourri in papaya is actually more flattering against my pasty skin.

As a mostly-online shopper I've had some complaints lately that items are deceptively photographed--this is NOT one of those complaints, just one of those situations where the quintessence of the item doesn't come across in the photo.
