J Crew - textured jersey boatneck painter tee

First up....you have GOT to see this granny in J Crew! on Jules' blog. That makes my day.
********************************************

J Crew's textured jersey boatneck painter tee (17395) retails for $34.50. It runs XS - XL. Many colors --- white, black, soft graphite (light/med grey), sweet papaya, bright olive (yellow green), bright tulip (pink), aqua green, pale lilac, deep amber, plum raisin (deep purple) and mars.

Mars

Size XS - the color mars does not read as red in person.

Ratty tatty neckline. On the upside, these tees do not seem to be as thin and hole prone as last year's.

XS - Raisin - nice color

Check it out on Ema and on AudreyBella. You can see close up shots of the neckline finishing, or lack thereof on A Bigger Closet's blog.

I prefer J Crew's scoopneck tees. They can't seem to get the boatneck right and they should really leave it alone.

Likey? No likey? Chime in...

  1. I thought the neckline looked wide when I held it up in the store. Very disappointing. I love a good boatneck top.

  2. I do not like, the neckline is too wide and it looks sloppy hanging off the shoulder.

  4. I tried this shirt on in the plum raisin color last time I was in a store. Clearly, I didn't find it awesome because the pic didn't make it up on my blog. I agree...tattered neckline and the boatneck was too wide on me. Shame though...I do love the painter tees. I will just stick with the crew/v-/scoop necks!

  5. Ok that lovely elderly lady looks better than all of us put together I think. What a beautiful outfit. Good for her for dressing so well. If only we all get to that ripe old age in such great style. Thanks for the photo!!!

  6. That color looks good one you, but exactly whose idea is it to call 'mars' red? I mean I guess they are trying to reference the planet...but really..? A bit of a stretch. Could some people not get confused and think of maybe a Mars Bar and think it might be brown? We all know the online colors often don't match IRL. (Ok so I'm feeling a bit silly this morning :)
And I agree what is with the tatty neck. The only plain JC tees I have are V neck tissue tees from a couple of years ago.

  7. I checked out a biggger closet blog on this tee as well and saw a close up of the unfinished back neckline. What a piece of $#@&**!!!. I mean JCrew is really going down the tubes quality wise. I mean I would not even pay $5 for this tee!

  8. I really wanted this in the beautiful plum raisin color but the neckline is just a tacky mess. (I did the Flashdance look the first time around and have no desire to relive it.) I am so glad that I had the opportunity to look at this in a B&M and read the blogger reviews before I ordered it online. At the B&M it was marked down to $19.90. I'm going to order the plum raisin in the grosgrain trimmed scoop or the tissue pleated top instead.

  9. Gigi, do you mind if I link to your blog from mine? I tried on the same target dress as you had on your blog a while back and I wanted people to see how you styled it. I'm going to post it for now, let me know if you'd rather me take it off.

  10. I'm going to politely disagree with the other posters. I liked this tee. I think the wide neckline really accentuates and elongates your neck. The raw edge on the back does give it a more casual look and I wish they had finished it but overall, I think it looks good on your. JMHO

  11. I tried this one and the neckline was HUGE. It was like Flashdance huge--falling off of my shoulders.

  12. Normally, I am a huge lover of boat neck tees! However, this one - it's just not doing anything good. I think the fabric is the problem. It doesn't seem to have any shape-keeping stretch - it just hangs. I'm not a fan. Thanks for the review Gigi - I'll be sure not to waste my money on this one!

  13. Hi glaydies!

    * Sydney - When I saw her sitting there looking all sassy I thought to myself, 'For shame, Gigi, all the cute clothes you own just sitting in the closet. Wear them on the porch! Wherever!'

ITA about the mars color. I would have been expecting a copper red, more on the red side than brown and it's not that red in person.

    * Hexicon - I am not surprised they are on promo. I haven't seen them moving like some of the other items.

    * Olga - I saw your adorable, adorable post! I added it to the beginning of my post that is scheduled for Monday.

    * Anon@1:47 PM - Thank you for expressing your thoughts w/grace. I know some people liked this tee. And that's a-ok. ;-)

    * Petunia - I didn't do Flashdance long ago as I wasn't old enough to show shoulders or wear leggings, according to my dad. *lol* But I don't have an urge to get it out of my system. At least not w/this tee.

    * GSnap ;-) - Pass, girl, pass. Your style is more polished than this tee. Not saying that those who love it are sloppy. *lol*

  14. Thanks for sharing the info of that grandma wearing JC outfit. How cute!
As for the boat-neck shirt, I'm staying away from it due to the wide neckline and the fit. Not really impressive especially at the price point. Thanks for sharing though.

  15. First! Thank you for the link to the awesome blog and the awesome grandma. SO CUTE! And, I agree, very well put together...

Second! I don't agree on the boatneck top...but only because it works for me. I bought the plum raisin and am thinking about the amber. I think it works because I need the wider neckline to help with balancing my hips...and the color is so pretty.

I do appreciate hearing it doesn't work for a lot of people because not everything can work for everyone and (selfishly) I can wait to buy the amber on sale. ;)

  16. I'm not into the way the neck looks so ratty.
