J Crew - stadium-cloth Winnie jacket

First up....

I added a irl pic to the J Crew goldwyn dress post
. I am so happy I scored it. Me loveth.

J Crew's stadium-cloth Winnie jacket retails for $245. The style # for regular (0-14)is 16729 and 18197 for petite (0-12).

J.Crew at ShopStyle

Size 2 - I checked the tag. I definitely tried a 2. If you want a bright yellow coat, this is it.

If I were into this, I'd definitely need a 2P or 4P.

Note the eversoslight A-line/swing at the bottom

That dang sleeve. I was surprised that it was a such a bell sleeve.

Me no likey. It's just not for me. Tried it all for all my glaydies here. Too military and too yellow. I was turned off by the brightness of the yellow when I saw it. Also the military thing is too trendy for me to wear on a nice winter coat like this. Though I love & appreciate the look.

Check it out on one fashionista diva. And you get a two-fer with the Winnie on Dina & Heidi in this post.

p.s. I checked out Sarah's blog a life more exciting. She is a crackup. And her blog led me to Roscoe's blog.
Yes, Roscoe is a basset hound.

  1. I like the coat on you, the sleeves not so much. I agree with the comment about the military trend, next year it will not be popular, unless you have alot of money to spend it is too expensive to wear for only 1 season imo.

  2. Hi Gigi! Ooh, thanks for posting this. I tried the navy one at a B&M and totally fell in love with it. The material is *to die for*, so buttery soft. Definitely worth a check out if this it speaks to anyone style-wise, IMHO. Navy seems to be more versatile than the yellow, but the yellow seems very beautiful, IMHO. I really was wondering about the color, so thanks for posting those IRL pics! I think I'm going to go for navy even though I luff yellow.

Fitwise for me it seemed TTS or just slightly roomy (to allow for layering, I'm guessing). 6 was too big; 4 seemed to fit; didn't try on a 2. For ref, I'm usually a 4 reg or 6P/8P in coats. Hope that helps somebody. Since they had only the regs in store, I'm going to buy the petite online - the reg sleeves were too long for lil' ol' me. Hopefully petite will work!

  3. Aww, thanks for the shout out! I found you a little over a week ago and keep coming back!

I tried this coat on. Last year I bought a 4 in my J.Crew coat (for arm length) and if I were to get this one I would definitely have to do a 2. The 4 was enormous on me. I love the look in the catalog, but not so much IRL.

  4. I like it, but I own a bright yellow Maggie and have no need for 2 bright yellow wool coats. The catalog and online pics make the yellow appear much more subdued than IRL. Bright colored coats just look so great on the street, a fantastic pop of color.

  5. Oh I love that coat...the sleeves are not so hot, though. Maybe a 2P if they carried it?

  6. I kind of like the military style but I think I would look like Big Bird in it. The yellow is a bit to bright for my taste.

  7. ughhhhhhh! Not attractive--maybe in a different color!

  8. wow thanks for posting. i love the picture of this coat on the back of my catalog and thought about ordering...HOWEVER...i am just not that into the BRIGHT YELLOW revealed in the IRL pic.

THANKYOU again for saving me some time and hassle!!

  9. pretty cute! and winnie is just such a cute name for it. reminds me of winnie the pooh. but i have the yellow maggie from last year so i guess i'll be skipping on this one. i like it on you though. are you going to get a different color?

  10. I LOVE the style of this coat, but agree with you that the yellow is a bit much :) I am surprised by the bell sleeves, I'm not a fan of those for a coat...too drafty!

  11. Whoa. That's very yellow! It looks cute on the website. More of a mustard color. I do like the military style, though. I'm thinking of heading to the Army/Navy store to get an authentic pea coat this year.

  12. This look is a little too drum majorette for me . . . maybe it would be more subdued in the navy.

Interesting point about whether it's sized for layering, because I find that a lot of JC clothes aren't--I don't have unusually large shoulders but most of my JC dress coats won't fit over a suit jacket.

  13. Hmmm I don't know how I feel about that coat after seeing your IRL pics. I really love it on the website but it seems more yellow IRL than it is in the pictures--bummer! Also, those sleeves are awful and would most def be too long on me :(

  14. What is up with the sleeve? This is so disappointing - I had a serious crush on this jacket until... the sleeve. Will try it on anyway at the store to see if I get the same issue. The yellow is also verrry yellow. But I will wait to see it IRL. Thanks Gigi!

  15. Gigi-
Godwyn dress is adorable on you!
I love the winnie jacket but see the problem with the sleeve.P might work fro petite ladies. There is someting about yellow color that makes my heart leap. If I was not with a baby, I would have jumped to get this jacket.:)

  16. Thanks for the review, Gigi. You are so helpful. I loved this in the catalog. IRL, not so much. Do you think you would be able to review the Double-cloth Camino Coat if you get a chance?

  17. I tried this on in navy, and had the exact same issues. No go for me too. Oh well, it was a cute concept!

  18. * DianaDraw - I often wish I could record my thoughts to get all the details about each item I try, but that would just sound nutz in the fitting room. I agree -- the material is great. The jacket feels solid & like a good weight for winter. This is a Cali, mild weather opinion, keep in mind. I still think it's a good weight -- not thin/lighter, like the scarf bouclé from last fall.

*Tina Z - If you have the yellow Maggie, then that's enough.

*Addie - I had a pea coat from a surplus store. I don't know why I ever let it go. It was awesome and about $40 to boot.

*Jenny K. - If I see the Camino, I will try it on. I definitely have many more reviews to do of the newer jackets so stay tuned. :-)

  19. Gigi: This looks sooo good on you! But, I get the comment about the sleeves. I love it...I also think you will get more than one season out of this. I have a military style peacoat/blazer that I have worn for five seasons now. It is classically cut and stylish enough to not be overly trendy...I think this is a great item for your fall/winter wardrobe.

  20. I tried this coat on Sunday and love love loved it. I loved the color (would be great with all my neutrals), and the shape - but I just wasn't full-price-feeling it. Like Diana, I found plenty of room in this. I tried an 8 and there was still plenty of room for sweaters underneath.

  21. I tried this coat on today in Navy at my B&M and I loved it. Much more than I did in the catalog. The fabric is really soft and the style is very cute. I didn't notice a problem with the sleeves, but I'll pay more attention next time!

  22. HeidiG - I see you radiant in this color. For sure.

Hey Jennifer - If you are a regular size, you may have not noticed the sleeves as much as me. I'm sure they're scaled better on the petite for my size. Thanks for visiting. :-)
