J Crew - short-sleeve stretch broadcloth shirt

*****************************************************
First up....
I saw the hot mess tank top online. I put the web pic in the original post. I remain unimpressed.

J Crew's Short-sleeve stretch broadcloth shirt retails for $59.50. It comes in regular (13326) and petite (13347), numeric sizes. It comes in white, light pewter and lavender on the website. I also saw it in a navy & wht vertical pinstripe in b&m.

It looks so cute w/the silk-ribbon chain link necklace ($98).

This might be a size 4.

Lavender - size 6, not very vibrant. A slight shade darker would have been really nice.

I lifted my arms for some reason and when I put them down I got a chestisus crease. That bothered me for some reason. I probably don't lift my arms on a regular basis during my day, but I don't want something I feel I have to tug down which is how I often feel in button downs unless they're fitted, yet loose. The blouse stayed in place while I was in it and it felt comfortable in general. I'm sure I just contradicted myself.

It's a really, really cute blouse and it's worth the $59.50. I forgot to snap a pic of it underneath a blazer. Super cute. The shirt is well made with stitching that flatters the female figure. Oh -- here it is with the bow skirt:

Anyway, after I got home and thought about it I decided I have enough white blouses. None of the other colors excited me. And if I'm on the fence or don't wear it right away I know it'll just sit there. Even though it looked sooooo cute with the gold metallic cotton linen jacket. Like, really cute. Sorry I don't have irl pic, but try the two together in-store if you're able.

You can see the blue & white striped one on Liz Poms.

Likey? No likey?
Chime in...

  1. I will have to try this on IRL. It is so so so cute with the skirt - you have such a cute figure in that pic! Very Mad Men... Too bad there weren't better colors.

I am apprehensive about the fit in the shoulders as mine are pretty broad, but we will see. Thanks so much for sharing!!

  2. I tried this on in the B&M last week. It's a cute shirt and fit TTS but it was unremarkable in style or color. This would't be a must have, but on FS for <$20m I would get it.

  3. I think this looks REALLY cute on you, especially with the skirt...you should keep it on your list to get on sale. :)

  4. I love this outfit on you. The skirt looks really nice and the color is so different. Good job!

  5. I agree that this may be a good basic to pick up when the price is right. I really like the shapely structured cut that is not too long or narrow; I'm especially grateful that it comes in petites; and although I also found the color offerings bland at first sight, I do think this shirt works best as a "supporting" piece to the striking oranges, pinks and yellows we've been filling our closets with in recent months.

It certainly looks great with the orange bow skirt. I'd like to try pairing the blue stripes with the orange or chartreuse gateau.

  6. this shirt has a nice fit to it. you're right this shirt does have a nice cut and forms to the body without being too tight. it really came to life when you put the bow skirt on though!

  7. Gigi the top and skirt look fab on you! I heart it! I always am a sucker for a good basic shirt like this.

  8. I *LOVE* the skirt. I don't think the shirt is remarkable. I don't think I would pay full price for it. Thanks for the post!

  9. I lust love the blouse and skirt on you. I was bemoaning my issues with above the knee skirts to my girlfriend and she suggested I get the hem taken out. With this skirt, it seems to sit at the knee.Do you think there is enough hem to lower it below the knee?

  10. Old JCrew fan here:

I have a very similar flattering fit in this blouse from many years ago. I have it in lavender and it is a nice deep shade as well as aqua blue and white. I bought all three at the Fashion Showplace Mall in Vegas for about $10 each.

  11. The combo with the bow skirt is really ingenious. But for $60 I would first look at Land End's broadcloth -- much higher quality and many more options... not to mention less expensive.

  12. I like the skirt! It really looks cute on you the whole outfit. I will have to try on that. Thanks for posting =)

  14. Something about the shirt in white with short sleeves says "nurse/diner waitress/flight attendant". I'm so sorry! I'm glad you didn't get it.

  15. I really like that shirt. I think I only have one white shirt in my closet, and it's long sleeved. The skirt is adorable, too. How much is the skirt in the B&M's?

  16. love that skirt and shirt together. looks great on you! I could probably use this but would wait for a sale.

  18. okay...so at our outing today in DC I tried this on in a striped pattern and although the blouse was okay buttoned up on me, it looked a lot better unbuttoned, almost like a lightweight jacket.

Just a thought for those of you ladies who like it but may not find it as appealing buttoned-up.

Gigi, you looked pretty in all of the ones you tried on...

  19. Wow, I love this outfit. I am coveting both items...

  20. Da*n, that skirt is cute! I am digging the whole outfit, me likey very much. I'd buy the shirt to fill the white-short-sleeve-button-down gap in my wardrobe, but not if I had something like it already. Since I don't have a ss-button-down, it's now on my radar to try out. :) Thanks for posting.

  21. HeidiG - Thanks! And I love Mad Men clothing.

Joyce - I hope they continue s/slv shirts like this in more colors. That would be good.

FFM - I think this will go on the sale list. I am going to email my PS to ask about sizing. The petite might be a better fit.

The Outfit of the day - Thx & thx for visiting. :-)

Anon/LL - Blue stripes sound great w/the orange or chartreuse. A navy jackie shell would look good over the blouse, or a jackie cardi, of course.

starla729 - When I put it on w/the skirt & almost had to get skirt even though it doesn't work for my lifestyle.

JL - Thanks for stopping by. I may try on the wht/navy next time I'm in the store just to see. I really do like the blouse.

Bekah - The blouse is outstanding as a basic. Definitely beats a regular oxford button down. But you're right --it's no showstopper ;-)

KBear - Hello....isn't the skirt darling.

shopaholicdiva1027 - I don't know about the hem length and if there is enough to lower it. I would imagine there is at least an inch of material in there. I'm just guessing though.

    Anon/Old JCrew fan - $10! Now *that's* a bargain.

Pansy - I haven't perused Lands End, but read a debate on JCA about it. They definitely have a great website.

Joanne - Do try it on. I felt cute in it. *lol*

caliglam - One of the SAs mentioned taking the bow off, which would give it a long life. I just didn't like the wrinklage.

    Anon@8:26 AM - *lol*

Ksea - The upside to a short sleeve button down is not having to fight with long sleeves under a cardi. The bow skirt is $110.

sparrowsandsparkles - Thanks & thanks for visiting. :-)

ashley - My color lady told me no orange, but I'm not listening to her.

dinagideon - That's a thought. Very interesting & thanks for sharing the idea.

Paper Bag Princess - It was really a cute outfit. I'll just love the pics for now. *lol*

Diana Draw - I highly recommend a s/slv button down. I think of the couple I have in my closet and this one beats them. I think of this as a layering piece and it has the best details that don't interfere w/a sweater shell or cardi.
