J Crew - floral burst tees

J Crew has a new series of t-shirts. I think it's been mentioned on JCA that these have been selling really well. I made up names for them.

1) Champagne floralburst - size S, sorry no style#

A requisite Jackie would go well over the champagne & grey tees - bright fuschia, dark aquamarine & melon

2) Grey floralburst (14553) - size S, $45

3) Metallic abstract floralburst (13853)- size S, $42.50

KatyO also reviewed the champagne floralburst tee and you can see it here on her. She has recently reviewed other J Crew items, so check them out as well.

Me no likey. I 'get' them and like the concept, esp the grey & champagne ones. But $42.50 is just too much when it's not that great of a fit on me. I think the floral burst is intricate because it's woven sewn material that's then sewn onto the tee, but still...a pass for me. Maybe on sale if there are any left? Do you think the champagne or the grey for me if I were to cave on some Crewlade? And...

Likey? No likey?
Chime in...

  1. Those are way too expensive! Check the Old Navy website -- they just got a bunch of new graphic tees today and some of them are REALLY nice and they're only $14.50.

  2. It's sort of ridiculous how long they are. They were long on me, and I'm 5'7"! I guess if you're going to wear them a bit baggy over leggings they might be cute, but I don't recall seeing any leggings at J. Crew, so I'm not sure how one would style them. Thanks for the photos! :D

  3. If you cave into the Crewlade, I would vote for the champagne. But don't lovey, esp not for me. I actually like the metallic one better, but you know me and my love of neutrals...

  4. I'm not in love. If I had to choose a favorite I would choose the gray color (less sheer?) Anyway, I want something more *special in a embellished tee...maybe they will come out with one soon :)

  5. Meh...nah. They're interesting for sure. But they look too "trendy" like they would look out of style in a year or so. Not worth the $$. And what's up with the long-ness? weird!

that said, I like the gray one out of the 2 colors. And the 3rd one (which i think is the mendhi graphic tee?) i saw in a store once and was immediately turned off from it. it just looked...weird.

  9. Is the tee made out of Ringspun or Slub cotton?

I have been wanting to see this thanks for posting your pics. I do not like it, the price is too much, and the tee is really long. I do not think it can be worn by itself you have to layer with a sweater (add the cost of the sweater) to it, noo pass.

  10. I saw the floralburst, and likey, but, I am trying to be 'good' since I got the Havona tank, and some other stuff during the personal shopper 20% off event.

  11. Your post prompted me to stop by my store tonight. :) Even though I had just been there a week ago, they already got them and sold out! But they found a gray one for me at another store. I'm not one to jump on the band wagon on stuff like this, but this really look like something I'll like and wear a lot. Thanks for sharing!

  12. I saw these and just didn't think they were special enough or fit well enough. Maybe if I could find one with a perfect fit! The grey one would be my favorite.

  13. The grey is also my favorite of the three (I like the relative evenness and opacity of the grey as well as the more controlled colors paired with it), so that's the one I'd go with if excess length and durability weren't issues.

  14. I love, love the Gray floral burst tee. Picked it up this weekend at the Washington, DC JCA get-together and private shopping event. I also bought the Mehndi tee a few weeks ago and it's fast turning into my favorite graphic tee. The flecks of gold in it are beautiful and it looks great under quite a few J.Crew staples. IRL, the floral burst tees are beautiful. Check them out in the store...you might like them better.

  15. I have said it before that damn "Fireworks" slub tee looks like a bad 6th grade school art project. Esp for 45.00 or whatever it is..... I'm sorry I know lots of people love it, but even on sale or on clearance I just could not justify buying this tee in sound mind and clear judgement.

    Swing and a miss..... :-(

  16. Anon@3:50 PM - I ordered the Paris graphic t from ON last week. Plus it had a v-neck...I *had* to see it in person. Still waiting for it to arrive. I'll have to peruse the site to see if they have new tees I haven't seen.

KatyO. - Baggy+leggings is a good styling idea. I would probably do the cardi look.

HeidiG - Thanks for the vote. The metallic one didn't pop enough, imo. Maybe underneath a chocolate cardi to set off the metal paint.

GingerSnap - This one's gonna be long on you, too. It's definitely a Crewlade provoked purchase for me or not at all.

AppGal - I think J Crew purposely makes some things (I.e. painter tee) that we cannot wear multiple seasons. Thus we are forced to keep shopping & replacing. *lol*

shopaholicdiva1027 - Ooooh, I know the bouquet cardi in tearose. I'll post on that and mention this tee at the same time. Good idea. Congrats on getting a 25% card.

casual-crew - I think the tee is slub. Definitely not ringspun. I think I would have remembered and griped about the thinness.

caliglam - The Havona tank is more remarkable than this. And it will last longer, I think. This might look 70s ish after a hot minute.

Carrie - Sounds like you will get good wear out of it. Yay! I know it's not for everyone, but if it moves you....go for it.

Petunia - Hello...thanks for stopping by.

    Anon/LL - Thanks for posting :-).

AnneG - The event looked like so much fun! I have to admit the tee is eye catching.

J - *lol* That was funny. I love the varied opinions.

  17. Gigi,
    I love the floralburst tee.
    Thank you for the pics!

  18. I love the tee but I wouldn't splurge... http://isnotfashion.blogspot.com

  19. My thoughts are exactly the same as J. What is up with the bright nylon colored panty hose on that tee! I think it is going to look great on a lot JCAs just not me. I'm too structured. Thanks for the review Gigi!

  20. Not for me either. I hate the high crewnecks on most graphic tees...not flattering to me at all. Why can't they do a v-neck or a scoop on the graphics more often????

    ReplyDelete
  21. the only one i love (and have) is the grey one because the colors are more muted. i tried it on w/ the dark charcoal crewneck cardi that i have and belt it w/ the pewter belt from winter (and of course cuffed jeans). i really like the look w/ the muted colors of the tee peeking out of the cardi. it's something different. most of jcrew's graphic t's i wear as layers anyway. so for me, i likey the grey one! :) thanks for trying all this stuff on and posting your pics gigi...it's like a full time job! :)

  22. ...i've also had the mendhi one for a while which is a great layer under browns... :)

  23. I LOVED these tees on the table @ the DC JCA shopping event this past Sunday, but was disappointed when I tried them on. :( I'm 5'8", 130 lbs, and this shirt just did not fit me anywhere near right. It pulled across the shoulders but then was baggy-ish around my waist. It's also really thin, and then there's the matter of the price... so, it was a pass for me, in both colors.
HOWEVER! There was *one* chiffon rosette tee in the pink color, which I'd never really been interested in before, but tried on and LOVED. Yes, it's also sheer, but my nude-colored brassiere didn't show through. Go figure! So, that was my expensive t-shirt purchase for the day! :)

  24. The Outfit of the day - You're welcome & thanks for stopping by.

    Cari - I think it's crafted to the tune of $42 - $45, but I wouldn't pay that. Esp since it's not a one-of-a-kind or anything.

    Emily - *lol*

FFM - I hear ya ;-) -- Better get set to do one or two Polyvores anywho.

Daisy - I TOTALLY agree that they should throw a little V neck in the mix now & again.

ccbmum - Sounds cute w/the dark charcoal cardi.

jackie from dc - Yay on finding a rosette tee. I LOVE mine. I agree it's weird that it's sheer, but doesn't show the bra. Odd indeed.

  25. Your post drove me to stop by my b&m one night this week. They had sold out of them immediately, but tracked down a gray one for me at another store. I went into the store and literally showed them the pictures of your blog on my iPhone! :)

  26. I have to give a shout-out to an earlier post that mentioned Graphic and Applique tees at Old Navy. I went to Old Navy last week to pick up a pair of my favorite jeans -- Sweetheart Boot-Cut -- and FLIPPED over Old Navy's new tees. Like Anon posted -- you can't beat the price -- $14.50 and they are adorable. slub-knit-like cotton fabric and super cute designs. I would say if you are frustrated by J.Crew prices for cotton tees, then run, don't walk to Old Navy and get yourself a few deals!

  27. Carrie - *lol* that is so funny! Sometimes I look at my blog on my phone, too. If you all have put in information, it helps me when I'm out and about. Like someone mentioned a BR necklace I had been coveted and I was able to get on the phone to try and locate it. Modern technology!

AnneG - I haven't seen any new tees in my ON. I should swing by again. I ordered the Paris tee and didn't like it. But I will try others. They're not as see-thru as J Crew's, which is fantastic.
