TOTALLY fulfills my ivory coat obsession. I am a happy gal! Notice the honey glaze Lulu peep toes. ;-)

Straight on view for sleeve length and coat length on my body, which is 5'2"

Will try to post more about fit & feel. I am wearing (and keeping!) a size 2. I usually wear a 4 or 6P.
Adding: Stadium cloth is very soft. I'd even say it feels luxurious. Perhaps I am being generous w/my compliment given I didn't know what to expect. I thought stadium would be a little tougher or rugged. Maybe like a pique. I had to check the label to see if it has cashmere. It's 80% virgin wool & 20% polyamide. I'd say that this runs one size large. I am always a 4 or 6P and this is a 2. As soon as I put it on I felt the empire seam across my back and I knew it was a winner. I love that the mock neck is not as high as a funnel neck. No decorative buttons at the wrist, which I like. And the buttons on this are matte. They're not shiny as on the Madeline. They're not brown, as on the Lady Day. It's perfect in my book. Very, VERY happy!
A HUGE thank you to Chiffon Cupcake from J Crew Aficionada who reviewed this coat. I thought it was cute, but didn't realize it came in Ivory. Thank you, thank you !!!!!!!!!

You look like frosty the snowman, all plump and welcoming for the small children to take pictures next to you!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning GiGi! I LOVE Ivory coats!!! My Ivory Maggie Jacket arrived yesterday, and it is just TDF!!! Congratulations on your new purchase! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks fab, Gigi - glad that you finally got the ivory coat you wanted!
ReplyDeleteNice coat and a very flattering fit. BTW what style of jeans are you wearing? JC?
ReplyDeleteGigi - That looks fabulous on you. Great purchase!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to add that I think you look FAB, too! :)
ReplyDeleteYour new coat looks very pretty on you Gigi. I would love to have an ivory coat but know it would get dirty so fast! Do you plan on wearing it everyday, or just on occasion? Enjoy your new coat!!
ReplyDeleteanon@12:21a - I'm a jolly frosty.
ReplyDeleteFFM - Thanks! I feel soooo good in it, too. Yay on your ivory Maggie. I am sure it looks great w/your hair color, etc... Ivory is very classic.
silver_lining - Thanks! Yes me, too. The fixation is over.
casual-grew - Hey there. The jeans are JC bootcut. I am in a 29. I could probably take a 28, but I prefer a slightly looser fit.
Kate - Thank you! :-)
Love Your New Coat - Hi & thanks. I'm not wearing it on a daily basis. I'll wear it on days when the weather is cool and clear. We don't have snow here, but we have rain of course. I won't wear it anytime I think it has a shot at getting muddy. I drive a lot so I can hang my coat in the car instead of sitting on it in trains or cabs. I don't know if I'd have an ivory coat if that were the case. I need to Scotch Guard it before taking it outdoors. I'm also psychologically prepared to dry clean it more than I would other coats.
very nice on you...congrats! i just ordered this coat too (in navy)...i tried a navy size 2 at the pleasanton store (must have been a return). it was a tad big but i loved it. i had no idea that stadium cloth was so soft! i orded one of the last sz 0 navy online with HOHOHO...i hope actually i get it and that the fit is right...i've been on a seemingly never-ending search for a new perfect wool coat...i really like the details of this one :)
ReplyDeleteccbmum - Hey there! Thanks. I was thinking of you as I was talking to a woman today at the register in WC -- wondering if it was you. *lol* The stadium cloth is soooo soft. I'm not sure what I expected, but I was surprised like you.
ReplyDeletelol, no it wasn't me...i almost stopped by there today though! :)
ReplyDeleteGigi I just ordered 2 of these! I have been eyeing this coat all season, and your review plus Chiffon Cupcake's review AND the extra 30% off with free shipping pushed me over the edge, haha. I ordered navy and ivory, because I have the Felicia in black already (which I love!). Love your blog!

ReplyDeleteGigi, the coat looks fantastic! I ordered one too in same color and size. Thanks so much for the review and pics!
ReplyDeleteGigi my Shipleys in ivory and navy arrived and you are so right! I LOVE the ivory and will be keeping it; the navy is going back. I feel like the fit of the navy isn't as flattering for some reason. It feels a little tighter in the shoulders than the ivory. The ivory has some nice give in the fabric, so I can wear a thick sweater underneath and not worry about it being tight at all. It is just so feminine and classic - although I am SOOO scared of getting it dirty.
ReplyDeleteI love the softness and thickness of the stadium cloth; I was pleasantly surprised because I had felt the Lucinda coat and expected the Shipley to be the same, but it's not. It's softer ... almost loftier in a way. I also sized down to a 2 after your recommendation and it fits perfectly. And the price was right - I got it for $139.99 and free shippingwith the JINGLE code. Thank you so much for posting this review (you too Chiffon Cupcake - you started all this, haha!). I love this coat!
Gigi, I bought the black & I really really love it. I normally wear a 4-6 top & from reading your post got a 2.
ReplyDeleteI am just not 100% about the fit.(I am a horrible decision maker & am known to buy things a little too big for me).
Does yours fit you "exactly"? Mine has little room to give, but seems to fit me exactly, kind of like how I would want a dress to fit me. I am concerned MAYBE it is a little too small, but it buttons easily...
Sorry for the obsessive ramble...but do you have any thoughts, further details on how your fits? I want to be "at peace" with it. haha.
Hi Gigi, glad that my review helped! This is my first time reading your blog and I enjoy it a whole lot! Keep the reviews coming! :)
ReplyDeleteBTW, that is a fabulous fit on you!
ReplyDeleteIt looks adorable on you, but too snug. You should go for the 4 for a sleeker fit-it just looks too tight.
ReplyDelete1/27/09 - I like to respond when I see posts, no matter how late --
ReplyDeleteclassic_style - Keeping the ivory sounds great. I think of navy coats for spring, not really for fall or winter. Not heavy ones anyway. Usually they're so dark I just stick with black. I've only worn mine twice. The ivory makes me nervous as well.
Anonymous - December 23, 2008 9:06 AM -- Yes, mine fits "exactly." I hope you kept yours.
Chiffoncupcake - Thanks for stopping by & the compliment. Sorry I stopped all the action prior to your visit.
Anonymous, January 15, 2009 2:54 PM - Oh, honey, I am not at my fighting weight. I have a winter coat of 10 extra lbs on right now. The 2 is a good fit even with the extra lbs and I'm happy with it. I neglected to mention that it does appear to grab at the boobs so I think it may look tighter on the bustier folks. Based on the measurements I got on the phone, I think a 4 would have been too big.
I understand, and didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I just noticed the second button pulling, and figured a 4 wouldn't do that. Peace out. --2:54
ReplyDeletemy hubby bought me that coat on sale for Valentine's...i got it in dark poppy and love it
